MJKINNEY & WILLiA o, for themselves, and as the
snrriv'ng prjtucrs uf Walter C. White & Co., find it
necessary to adopt such means as will insure an adjustment ol
their unsettled business in Texas. We have responsibilities in
the United States due long since, and our creditors hate wai-
ted without murmuring, with a hope, that some arrangement
would be made to pay them so soon as wc had a little time to re-
cover from the general embarrassments into which the country
bad been involved by the war. Knowing the general einbar-
raisment that pervaded the whole country, wc have not been
active in urging the payment of debts due us, because we had
advanced to the government a sufficient amount, which, if col-
lected, would coter our responsibilities abroad. It is, howev-
er, atthis tints inconvenient, and indeed the government cannot
at present be required t pa r us. We must, therefore, request
those ngaiust whom we ha o claims to call and make such pay
Bents and adjustments as can be reasonbly expected.

at the counting bouse of Messrs. S. L. Jones & Co. in Quintana,
and those having business with Walter C. White Ac Co., will
please call at the counting house of Messrs. Aldridge &. Davis
at Marion, where they will at ail times find an agent to make
reasonable arrangements in relation to all business uuicttlod.

which we cannot command at present, and owe Monty which
we cannot pay without collecting of our customers their dues;

This site was selected
by Judge Evans several years ago, and those who have
visited it think it docs credit to his iudgmont. The situ
ation is eminently beautiful, surpassed by few if any, in
the republic. A bluff extends along the'river for the" dis
tance of nearly a mile, aud above the highest floods.
The prairie Jicre comes quite to tho river. There is
here good, pure and never failing spring wafer. A
chain of prairies extends along the west bank of the Co
lorado river above this piace to the mountains, equal in
fertility to the alluvion of the Mississippi. On the' south
the country is fine, to the bay ofiJUhtogorda. The land
west of tho town, on Buckner'scrjck, and the head wa
ters of the Navidad and La Baca riveis. is of excellent
quality. The town is not only surrounded by a fertile
country on all sides, but has also the charms of romantic -scenery.
About two miles south of Colorado city, there
is a high range of beautiful hills running along the south
side of Bucknor's creek to the margin of the river. A
fountain rises in this ridge, which is sufficiently elevated
to water a city on the plain. There is also a very I igh
bluff on the east side of the river, armilo or two abnvo
which may be seen from the town. There is abundance
of stone in the vicinity for building purposes- On the
east side of the river, a few miles above tho, town, ther
is an abundance of Pine timber. Tbe pine hills in some-
places are washed by the river. It is scarcely necessa

navigato tho Colorado river from tho raft to Colorado ci

ers in Texas. Taking into consideration th capacity of
'he river for navigation, the extensive tract of fertile and
heautttul countrv bv which it is surrounded, the excellen
cy of its spring water, the healthiness of its situation and'
ts centrahtv, it is apparent to the superficial olisert or
