REVIEW OF THE NEW ORLEANS MARKET
Corrected from Vie Bulletin of December 11.
COTTON LIVERPOOL CLASSIFICATION.
Cotton. The lively demand noticed in our two previous reports
continue unabated. The sales on Wednesday last were estimated at
6,000 bales, on which sellers had the advantage in prices ; on Thurs-
day 6,000 bales were sold at full rates. Yesterday we had not so
general an enquiry and the sales did not exceed 4,000 bales. In
prices we are 1 to cent per lb. higher this week on all qualities ex-
cept those of Good Middling to Fair, and our quotations altered ac-
cordingly. The receipts of Cotton are on a large scale in this port,
being about 33,000 bales for the week ending last evening.

and that of the right class 'for a new country, namely,

The New Orleans papers brought to us by the last mail,
are exclusively occupied with accounts of the outrage
upon American rights, perpetrated by the British au
thorities of Nassau", with regardjo the cargo of the Brij
Creole. The Morning Advertiser of the 8th inst., con-
liins the protest of the mate and crew of the Creole, a
verbose yet well-drawn instrument, giving a full and
minute detail of all the occurrences on board, and at the
Island, from the time of sailing from Norfolk, until the
departure of the Brig from Nassau. From this protest,
some brief extracts will be found in our next. The people
of the United States arc full of indignation at the out-
rage, wherever intelligence of it has reached them.
"What appears to us the worst feature in the conduct of the
- British authorities, is the refusal to permit those slaves to
proceed in the Brig to New Orleans who were willing
and desirous to do so. The idea of forcing men to be free,
whether they will or not, is rather too philanthropic.
"Many of the negroes who were emancipated expressed
a desire to go on to New Orleans on the Creole, but were
deterred from it, by means of threats which were made to
sink the vessel, if she attempted to carry them away.
-Three women, one girl and a boy, concealed themselves on
board the Creole and were brought to New Orleans.
Many of the male and nearly all of the female slaves
would have remained on board and come to New Orleans,
had it not been for'the command of the magistrates and in-
terference as before stated."
