And each has a dream that la tiny ■•' nd fleet.
Sao bringeth her poppies to you, u • sweet.
When she Cndeth you »le< ug!
There is quo little dream of a biv. iful drum,
"Rub-a-dub!" it goeth;
There is one little dream of a bli? utrar plum,
And, lo! thick and fast the other dreams come
Of popguns that bang, and tin tops that hum.
And a trumpet that bloweth!
And dollies peep out of those wee lltUodm.ub
With laughter and singing,
And boats go a-floating on silvery stream*.
And the stars peek-a-boo with their o\v:
misty gleams,
And up, up and up, where the Mother Mc.tr
learns.
r The fairies go winging!
Would you dream all these dreams that iv
tiny and fleet?
They'll come to yon sleeping;
So shut tho two eyes that are weary, my swec t,
For the Rock-a-by Lady from Hushaby street,
With poppies that hang from her head to her

Comes stealing; comes creeping.

Afr'^a's Goldfields.
An experimental boring 2, COO feet
deep was recently made in Witwa-
tersrand goldfield with a view to
testing the lay of the auriferous de-
posits. The result was of the most
satisfactory character, and the
"gteike" has led to calculations of the
hidden wealth of these fields, and

A Misconstrued Message-
Two English clergymen traveling
in the east recently telegraphed to
the British consul at a town they
were approaching, not far from the
Armenian frontier, in Persia, "Two
English clergymen will reach you on
Wednesday." On arriving on the
day named they found the consul
was out, and no preparation had been
made to receive them. On his return
the consul explained that the mes
sage he received ran, "Two worth
less persons will reach you on Wed
nesday." So he knew something was
going to happen and perhaps thought
it advisablo to be out of the way.
However, he duly made up by his
hospitality for any apparent cold-
ness in tho reception of the travelers.

The "Pillars of Hercules" was the
name anciently given to tho moun-

the Atlantic ocean. These moun-
