THE CITY.
Died.—In this city on the
30th ult., Emerson Otto, son
of Otto Walney, aged 1 year
and 8 months.
May opened beautifully and
a finer May day than yesterday
could hardly be asked by the
most fastidious.
On Friday evening last a
man named Chinowski was run
over at Kenney station by a
train and very severely injured.
He died of his wounds on
Tuesday.
Rebate stamps have been
"stuck" on every original pack-
age of cigars and tobacco in
the town, but if there is any
reduction in price the consum-
ers will have to go to the addi-
tional expense of buying a I150
microscope to discover it; an
ordinary magnifying glass or a
cheap microscope would be
worthless for the purpose.
Dull times are now in order

champion dull days ; there was
but little business doing and
the collectors report that a great I county will be at an expense of

of the district court an able-

and indicted. His case came
on for trial in the district court
and the jury found him guilty,
assessing his "punishment" at a
fine of £100 and ten months im-
prisonment in the county jailj
The defendant was a stranger,
moneyless and friendless, and
there appears to be no doubt of
his guilt. He is now in jail
serving out his time. The costs
in his case amounts to about
$15 and under the existing law
he can lay his fine and costs
out in jail at the rate
of $3 per day. He will
be kept in jail 11 months
and eight days expense to the
county of not less than £12 per
month and before being re-
leased the county will have to
buy him a suit of clothes, as it
would not be the proper thing
to turn him out in the wide,

into it. By this proceeding the
