Fib* at Chappill Hill—On
Monday morning about 5 o'clock
fire was discovered in the fine two
stoty dwelling owned by Wm.
Befastein and situated nesr his
store. The second story was accu-
pied by Sam Bppstein, who with
his family escaped in their night
olothes, losing every thing thoy
hid. A portion of the furniture on
the first-floor was saved. The house
waslvslued at about 94000 or 95000,
and it is reported there was about
92600 insurance. Active work on
the part oi the citizens prevented
the flames spreading to other build-
ings. The flre was accidental.

Bunch or Kkts.—Flora Moore
and her excellent company played
a two night's engagement at Fort
Worth recently. The Gazette of |
that city says:
j The "Bunch of Keys" improves
with age. It is one of the few plays
that never fails to amuse, no mat-
ter how olteii it is seen. There is
considerable comedy in the part of
Littleton Snaggs, the uncuccessful
lawyer and temporary landlord,
and with the clever people of the
troapo about him, the Bunch of
Keys is one of the funniest plays
ev«r put on the stage.
This company will appear to-
morrow evening; and all who en-
joy a fanny play well played
shomld go to see it.
Meetinf.

subordinate alliances were repre-

The meeting was called to order

the president, W. P. Dover.
The trade committee acting

mon, dry goods and groceries; Toss
Bros., dry goods, groceries, hard-
ware, farming implements and in
short all goods kept la a ftrst-slass
supply house. After consideration
of the aforestated bids, the bid of
VOSS Brothers proving more satis-
factory was given precedence, and
was referred baek to the trade
committee for further consider-
ation; said bid of Toss Brothers to
be finally received and matured by
contract at a meeting of the trade
committee to be held in the city of
Brenham on Thursday next, Jan-

favorable bid be entered by that
