At the Opera House.
The Jennie Holman company
made their third appearance last
evening before the theatre-going
people of Brenham, on which occa-
sion they presented the highly sen-
sational play. "Taken from Life.'
Notwithstanding the cold and threat-
ening weather, there was a fairly
good house, and there was abundant
evidence that the interest in Miss
Holman is growing instead of fag-
ging. Many pror o jnced the play and
acting better on Tuesday night than
on Monday night, and the same par

Personal Mention.
C. W. Womack, of Galveston, was
among yesterday's arrivals.
Father Grabinger moved his ef-
fects out to Independence yesterday.
Judge Kirk has parted with his
m >ustache and may now readily be
taken for a philanthropist.
Mr G. G. Drier left yesterday for
San Antonio and Charley Parks for
Navasota.
Thos. Howe, a student at Waco
Baylor university, is in town on a
short visit to his family.
Mr. Ed Hoffmann and bride are

ties were of the opinion that last i expected home from their bonej
moon trip to New Orleans to-night.
A telegram was received in the
city yesterday announcing the safe
arrival of Mr. R. Hoffmann in New
York.
«
Mr. M. A. Wescott and wife, of
Houston, were in the city yesterday,
but left on the noon train for Gid-
dings.
Mrs. C. H. Carlisle and little son
left yesterday for Laredo to visit
relatives, Mr. Carlisle accompanied
them as far as Austin.
Mis Addie Rogers, daughter of
Rogers, of Landon,
Tennessee, is visiting in this city
and is the guest of her cousiii, Mr.
T. A. Low and family.
Mrs. W. B. Turner, who has been
in the city visiting her Bister, Mrs.
Win Axer, and daughter, Miss Mattie
Turner, has returned to Valley
Mills.
was, if possible, an improve-
ment on th-3 uight before. Miss
Holman possesses great versatility
of power in acting and there is no
reason why she should not become a
brilliant star in the theatrical firma-
ment. Mr. Otto H. Krause, the
leading man of the company, is pecu-
liarly adapted to assume the droll
casts assigned to him, and the entire
company is very evenly balanced.
To-night Lucretia Borgia will be
given. This is the most difficult of
Miss Holman's repertoire and the
most interesting and exciting. The
members of the Brenham Light
Guard have been tendered compli-
mentary tickets and will turn out in
a body to night; there will no doubt
be a large crowd in attendance. By
the way, it is a noticable fact and
may well be taken as a compliment
by Miss Holman that she has suc-
ceededin drawing out the wealthiest:
most fashionable and best classes of
our citizens to her entertainments,
including many who are not in the
habit of attending tlio theatre, and
several of whom have attended two
or three nights in succession. The
company will appear every evening
during the remainder of the week,
and will give a grand family matiuee
on Saturdayjafternoon, at which the
beautiful story of Pygmalion and
Galatea will be presented.

has been decided at the present
Galveston term of the Supreme
court was reported in yesterday's
News. It is in the case of I. Hcid;
enheimer vs. J. H. Johnston & Co.,
et als. Heidenheimer, of Galveston,
sued Wenar & Co., merchants of
this city, a few years a^o and se-
cured their stock of goods. John-
ston & Co., intervened. A motion
was made to dismiss the interven-
tion and was sustained. The Su-
preme court reversed the decision
and the case was reinstated. It is
reported in the 65th Texas Reports.
At the last term of the district com t
the case was tried before Judge John
Alexander, of Caldwell, acting as
special judge, and was decided in
favor of the intervenors. The
supreme court affirms this judge
ment. The amount of the judge
ment is about eleven thousand
dollars, and J. T. Swearingen, Esq.,
