More or less serious accidents
from the deadly folding bed are of
almost daily occurrence, the latest
victim of its dangerous clutch being
the year-old son of Mrs. W. B. Van
Hutton, who poked bis chubby little
faand in the way just as his mamma
was dosing op a piece of furniture
of this kind Monday morning. Two
fingers of the bf&yV right hand
were so badly nitflbed that the ser-
vices of Dr. J. B. Williamson ware
required to dress the wounds.
Jesse Hiram Johnson/
The death of Mr. Jesse Hiram
.Johnson which occurred at Terrell,
Texas, Tuesday, Nov. 17tb, removes
from the walks of men one of the
oldest and most highly regarded
citizens cf Brenham. Mr. Johnso
was born in Illinois, Sept. 18tb,
1818, and came to Washington
county in 1840, when a little past
twenty-one years of age.
On July 2,1846, he married Miss
Lucinda Woodyard who died, about
four years ago. Eleven children
were born to Mr. and Mrs. Johnson,
six of whom are living, names:
Mrs. James Silas and Miss Annie
Johnson, of this] city; Mrs. M.
Choiske, of Houston; and Messrs!
W. D. J. L. and F. W. Johnson of
Pecos City.
Mr. Johnson's remains will arrive
at 5 a. m. this morning, via the
Santa Fe, in charge of Mr. James
Sallis. The funeral will take place
from the Baptist church at 11 a. m.

THE PLAY.
The Schwarz Stock Company ap
peared last night in a rattling farce
entitled, "Wanted, A Wife," which
was the most successful effort of the
engagement. The play proved to
be the ever popular "Jane," seen
here two years ago when it was
played by a Frohmann company.
After seeing a Frohmann perform
anoe, one is apt to be disappointed
in other performances. However
the Schwarz company do very nicely
and the performance pleased a
rather small audience.

Caught in the Act.
Thomas Sutton, colored, was
placed in jail Wednesday night by
Marshal Swain, charged with break-
ing the seal of a Santa Fe box car
with burglary as the evident object.
He was detected just after entering
the car by Brakeman Keeling, and
tried to escape by taking to bis
heels. The railroad man was too
swift for him, however, and succeed-
ed in capturing him after a hard
chase and after breaking his lantern
over the negro's head. The culprit
is about 17 years old and claimed he
wa-i enly trying to steal a ride to
Sealy.
