Sunday AmcsejIents.—This af-
ernoon the public will not suffer
or want of amusements. At 2:30
here will be a match game of base
ball at the Fair Grounds between
the Saxons and a picked nine;
here will be several fine players
in both clubs and somo really
scientific playing will bo, done.
The stakes to be played for, $100,
will make the game very interest-
ing and there will probably be
some lively betting on the grounds.
A revival has been going on at
the colored Baptist churcli in
Camptown for several weeks a»nd
interest in it is yet unabated. Lak t
Sunday 50 persons were baptised1
and to-day at 3:30 p. m., there will
be another baptising in Hog
branch, there is now about 30 can-
didates for baptism and it is likely
there will bo more.
The fishing season hats opened
and several parties will g o out to-
day to try their lack in recusing
the little fishes from a watory
grave.
Dry Time.—Local politicians can
be seen standing on the oonners
looking badly and spitting aotton.
Usually on the eve of a eity elec-
tion candidates are abroad with
pockets full of monoy consulting
the politicians and treating them.
The city election is, now only two
weeks off and up to this date 'there
has been but ojje candato announc-
ed ; the result is, there is no elec-
tioneering and no free whnkey.
Never before in the history of the
town has there been so little ap-
parent interest manifested. Tkero
are doubtless patriots onough
waiting, watching and praying for
some sort Qf a brtejse to spring up
and blow them into The
columns of the Banner are open
for announcements to all who will
pay in advance, and those who
contemplate presenting themselves
as candidates ought to do so sooin.
