oouncil held May 16th, 1887; Pres-
ent, J. A. VVilkina, mayor ; alder-
men (iiesecke, Perry, Abbott and
, Amsler.
Minutes of special meeting held
April 30th, were read and approv-
ed, also regular meeting held May
2d, and special meeting held May
7th.
Petition of S. Heidenheimer ask-
ing the privilege of building a
shed across Day street near his oil
mill, was reterred to the street
committee.
On motion the clerk was in-
structed to draw check for $250
balance due Tarver k Bryan on
thejwater case, voting yea, all the
aldermen.
F. Kiber appeared before the
Council and asked that the Central
House privy be removed or the
nuisance abated. On motion the
marshal was notified to have the
nuisance abated.
On motion the bill ot tuition
presented to Mr. F. Evansich be
remitted.
Reports of the treasurer and
assessor and collector were ap-
proved by tne finance committee
The following bills ordered paid

Hook and Ladder company, $2.75

Tho following proposition of
Lusk & Parks was accepted:
Brenham, May 16, 1887.
We the undersigned make the
following proposition to the city
council ot tho city of Brenham,
we hereby agree to furnish three
horses, two for the engine and one
for the hose cart, to be used at all
fires, day or night, and to furnish
two drivers with the same at all
times, for the following terms:
In the day time $4 and at night $6,
this amount is to be paid, at each
alarm, that Is whenever the engine
and cart is moved; the drivers are
subject and under control of the
Chief of the fire department.
Lusk & Parks
Furthermore whenever the en-
gine is taken out of an evening for
the monthly washing we agree to
take them for $2.50.

was received from the water com
pany and ordered placed on the
mi notes.

J. A. Wilkins, Mayor of Brenham,
Dear sir: You are hereby notified
that the fire hydrants have all been
reset and that the Water Company
will furnish service tor fire protec
tion from this date.

At a meeting of the directors of
the Brenham Water Co. held in
tho office of the 1st National Bank
May 9th, 1887, the lollowing resolu
tion was adopted, a majority of the
hoard voting in favor thereof.
"Resolved, That the proposi
tion of the city council to rent 35
hydrants at $1750 per annum be
accepted for one year from this
date. The city to be allowed to
fill ail pu-blic fire cisterns that
are in good order."

were instructed to draw contract.

The total receipts of the two
days Mai-fest were $1251.75, the
expenses of which cannot be defi-
nitely ascertained, as all bills have
not been brought in. Bills were
allowed on Monday to the amount
of $494.80, and $50 was donated by
the committee to the gallant mem-
bers of the Brenham Light Guard,
as a testimonial of their apprecia-
tion 6f the companies assistance in
making a success of the entertain-
ment. A vote of thanks was also
tendered the members of Connor
Hose company for the interest
they took in the fest.

First-class.—At a meeting of the
city council held Monday after-
noon all arrangements were made
to comply with the requirements
of the State Board of Underwriters
and in a few days, at furthest,
Brenham will be rated as first-class
for insurance rates.
