Kellogg.
The event of tho present amuse-
ment season was tho appoarance of
the Clara Louiso Kellogg concert
company at tho opera houso on
Friday evening; tho audience was
decidedly tho largest and most
fashionable of the season. A very
considerable number of the young
ladies from tho colleges at Inde-
pendence and Cbappell Hill were
in attondanco as well as many
ladies and gontlomon from tho sur-
rounding towns, Cbappell Hill, In-
dependence, Burton, Kenney, Bell-
ville and Caldwell being represent-
ed. Judging from tho applause
tho concert was highly appreciated,
and tho occasion will long be re-
membered, especially by tho
younger people most of whom had
never beforo heard so famous a
vocalist sing. Tho Banner know-
ing its inability to criticise a con-
cert of this eharactor doos not at-
tempt to give any remaaks on tb«
performance, which was highly
satisfactory to tho audience.
The testimony in tho water
works case was concluded at noon
on Friday. Mr. Garrett opened
tho argument in tho afternoon by
stating briefly tho nature of the
plaintiffs claim. Messrs. Swear-
ingen and Tarvor in bohalf of tho
city then took tho jury in hands
and entertained them until tho ad-
journment of court. Major Bass
ott will, this morning, entertain
tho jury by presenting tho Water
company's sido of tho case. Tho
court and tho jury havo boon very
patient and lot both sides present
their cases fully and completely.
