The Patton-Haebig Home in Fredericksburg, Texas
by
Esther Richter Weaver
St., Fredericksburg, Texas 78624.
The Patton-Haebig stone home facing west at 107 North Orange Street
is located on town lot no. 102, the lot granted by the German Emigration
Company to Dietz in 184.7.
On December 2, 1852, the company deeded the town lot to Gottfried
Bader, assignee of H. G. Dietz. Bader sold it to Ad. Stucken January
30, 1854, for $130. Eight years later, on February 24, 1862, Stucken
sold it to Karl Kranisch for the same price. Karl Kranisch and his
wife Katherine sold it for $126 to Carl Canmert February 2, 1867.
Since Cammert sold the property to Julius Kordzik January 18, 1870,
for $500 cash, it is assumed that Cammert was the one who built on this
lot the log house which later became the first home of Albert Lee Patton
and his wife Emma.
Courthouse records show that on July 13, 1870, Kordzik sold the
property to Hermann Mebus for $525 ($300 cash, $100 to be paid January
1, 1871, and $125 to be paid January 1, 1872). The next recorded tran-
saction is that of Julius Kordzik deeding the property for $525 to Hen-
riette Vebus on April 29, 1872.
A number of heirs of the estate of Alwill and Henriette Mebus
granted their interest in the property on March 9, 1876, to Carl Mebus.
Carl hebus sold the property at private sale for cash March 1, 1876, to
A. L. Patton, but the deeds legalizing the sale were not made until 1877.
In one deed, dated March 15, 1877, Carl Mebus granted 2/3 interest in
the property "situated on Austin Street" (lot 102 is at the intersection
of Austin and Orange streets) to A. L. Patton for $ 800. In a second
