Clean Up Brenham
We have sent samples of the city water away for
examination, and every precaution will be taken to
safeguard the health of the city. We would advise
boiling all drinking water until reports are received
on those samples. As soon as the reports are re-
received, they will be published.
A. A. HACKER, Mayor.
The above report shows that the city administration is alive to
the possible epidemic of fever that is threatening the city, and
that every effort will be made to prevent a recurrence of. the ty

phoid epidemic with which the town was afflicted three years aj?o. >( ^ Uppr i Homr tl ur„

j,ut ,t0 far as we can learn only one case has been pronounced ty-
phoid, though several others are suspicious. We do not wish to
be considered alarmists, and it is probable there is no great dan-
jrer at present, but it is better to be scared than to suffer with
fever, and it will do no harm to take a few simple precautions.
In this connection it might be suggested that Brenham is not
clean town. We hate to say it, but the fact remains the town
is dirty, so dirty in fact, that some sections are a disgrace to a
decent, progressive little town, which Brenham certainly claims
to he. There are numerous breeding places for mosquitoes, stag-
pant water is standing in spots, and many back yards and vacant
lots are in a condition of which their owners should be ashamed.
\nd what is even worse, there are a number of place* where
cold drinks and food supplies are sold that would certainly be a ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
matter of keen embarrassment to their owners should a pute iooit
inspector happen along unexpectedly.
One of our prominent physicians said to a Banner-Press repre- ^
mutative this morning: "It is possible that Brenham i> too poor
to pave the streets and make other improvements that would
characterize it as a progressive, up-to-date town, but it sure y
can, and should be a CLEAN town." All c.t./e.is are u.yed to ^
clean up their premises, cut down weeds, and do what th. > ^"i^ ^
y in a clean, sanitary •••mdition. thereby aiding very
in reducing our chances
