on the .Bartlett Club and later
with the Paris team in the West-
ern Association, and now with
the St Louis Cardinals, opposed
Alexander, the Great, in his first
big league game, and altho his
task was a hard one, he came
through with flying colors, not
only outpitched the great Alex-
ander, but shutting the cham-
pion Phillies out by a 2 to 0 score.

of Oklahoma, is on a visit to his
brother. J, W. Malone, near Al-
thea. "Uncle Bill." as he is
familiarly calied, left here about
twenty years ago. His reminis
cences of early days in Bartlett
are interesting.
Mrs. Frank Hamner, who is

of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
W. T. Warren, is reported ill

Miss Cates Honored.
On Tuesday of last week, Mrs.
E. J. Maury entertained a num-
ber of young people of the town
in honor of MissLaverne Cates of
Bartlett, the charming guest in
her home, After the guests as-
sembled a most delicious buffet
luncheon was served. Following
this treat, the guests were invit-
ed into the drawing room and
enjoyed several hours of pleasure
with the playing of various
games. When leaving-time came
each expressed himself to Mrs.
Maury as having enjoyed him-
self most delightfully and voted
her an ideal hostess. Livings-
