The Estate of Juan Martin de Veramendi and his wife,
Maria Josefa Navarro Veramendi, dated May 1839, filed
in probate court on March 29, 1853,9 assigned to his
daughter, Maria Josepha Veramendi Garza, and her husband,
Rafael Garza, one league of land situated on the West Side
of the San Marcos River.   On April 30, 1853,10 a document
was filed in the interest of the Estate of Veramendi Minors
by Julian Navarro, guardian, allowing the son, Marcus A.
Veramendi, to receive, as of November 28, 1836, one league
of land on the East Side of the San Marcos River.
The particular league which applies to that area in
which the cotton gin is situated is that which belonged
to Rafael Garza and his wife, Maria Josefa Veramendi.
They sold the property to William Lindsey on August 22,
1839 for the sum of $2,214.00.11 William Lindsey sold
approximately four hundred acres to Hullum D. Redwine
on February 9, 1852 for the sum of $3,200.00 cash.12
H. D. Redwine and wife, Rachel, sold this same parcel
on November 11, 1852 for $4,000.00 to Stephen R. McKie.13
On November 26, 1886,14 Mrs. Martha A. McKie sold, for
the consideration:  "love and affection of the grantor
for her children, the grantees, and $5.00" approximately
two hundred acres to Daniel McKie, W. R. McKie and Jennie
Hutchins.  A Deed of Partition dated November 26, 188615
conveyed by Daniel McKie and W. R. McKie to Mrs. Jennie
Hutchins their interest in the fifty-four acre tract set
apart to her, and she and her husband in turn conveyed
to them her interest in the one hundred forty-two acre
tract of land as set apart to them.
W. R. McKie and his wife then sold two tracts
containing thirty-two acres- and forty-four and six-tenths
