Revival fleeting.
The revival services conduct-
ed under the auspices of the
M. E. church is growing in int-
erest daily. Rev. Birdwell,
state evangelist of Ft. Worth,
is doing the preaching. He is
a strong gospel preacher and
as fearless as a lion. He don't
compromise with men nor dev-
ils when it comes to telling the
naked truth without white
wash or varnish, tyev. Bird-
well is a man with a strong in-
dividuality, a courageous de-
termination, and his convic-
tions beam in his word and ac-
tions. His illustrations are
line—some of them are very
comical, but they are a means
to an end; for the salvation ot
lost men, and through them
all rans the scarlet thread of a
crucified saviour. With ease
and facility he shifts his au-
dience from laughter to tears.
With the sledge hammer of
eternal truth he drives the gos-
pel wedge home, and strong
men and women tremble under
the gospel lash and giv^ their
hearts to God. In Rev. Bird-
well, the stage and the bar have
lost a brilliant star. But God
touched his heart with the
burning taper of love and laid
upon his neck the yoke of
obedience, and placed in his
hands the gospel pickax and
told him to go into all the
world and dig about the stony
hearts of men and call them to
repentence. Like the brave
bugler, when the officer order-
ed him to play a retreat, the
bugler looked at him in amaze-
ment and said, "1 don't know
how." The word quit has not
yet been penned in Rev. Bird-
well's dictionary. This is the
greatest meeting that Albauy
has had in years. At this
writing there have been
conversions. Rev. Brown, pas-
tor in charge here conducts the
song services. Brother Brown
is a great worker in this meet-
ing and has been a great fac-
tor in its success. With his
sweet christian spirit and God
ly life has won the hearts of
all the saints and sinners -alike.
Promptly at 10 a. m. every
business house in town is clos-
ed up for one hour, and the
city looks like a deserted vil-
lage, as everybody goes to
church. The day meetings are
the best of all. The meetings
will last over Sunday anyhow
if not longer.
