THE ALBANY NEWS
is the only paper in the county. It is the best country weekly in the State. It smiles
everyday in the week—chronicles the doings of the people, and stands pat upon every
issue that is for the up-building of the county.. It is purely a Democratic paper. It says
what it thinks, and thinks what it says, and it is no mouthpiece for clicks nor rings. It
is with the majority if it is right, and against the minority if it is wrong. It does not lick
the hand of corporations, nor bows to the will of monarchs, and would fight the devil
against odds if it thought it was right. She primes her own bullets, manufactures her
own powder, and her editor is always behind the gun, ready for the fray. If you don't
read it, you ought to, besides sending half a dozen copies to your friends back down east.
HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY.

A number of years ago be-
fore the bank was established
here the people kept their
money on deposit with the
merchants. One time a
wealthy cattleman who thus
kept hii money, desired to
leave and be gone for some
lime on a business trip to an-
other state and he was much ex-
eroised to tind a suitable man to
leave in charge of his property.
He needed a capable man, one
who understood his business
aad as considerable money was
to be handled, the man must
be, strictly honest.
One man suited him as far
a# hi* capability was concern-
ed and he had the appearance
of honesty. This young man
was already working for him
so he resolved to test his hon-
esty. He gave the young man
an order on the merchant for
his wages and then rode ahead
o( him and said to the mer-
chant "when you pay my man
this money slip in this $20 bill
M if by mistake and notify me
whether he refunds it or keeps
it." He gave the merohant the
ISO bill and rode off. The
young man oame, the $20 ex-
tra was paid him, but he never
returned the money. The cat-
tleman not only did not put
him in charge of his business,
but discharged him from his
service.
If he had returned the mon-
ey the increase in his first
month's wages would more than
made the $20 and he would
have been on the high way to
success and prosperity. No
young man can succeed with-
out henesty. If he cannot be
honest for honesty's sake, he
should be honest for policy's
sake, for honesty is ever the
best policy.—Jacksbore News.
It takes a lot of rehearsing
to make the average man hon-

A woman never likes her
husband to be chummy with a
bachelor.
Only a born diplomat can be
frank and popular at the same
time.
The money of the self made
person is apt to talk regard-
less of grammar.
A young man may be as old
as he feels but he is seldom as
rich as he looks.
The plainer a woman the
longer it takes her to select a
becoming bonnet.
Many a man has been turn-

Poverty and faMure are self
invited. The disasters people
dtead often come to them.
Worry and anxiety enfeeble
their foroe of mind and so
blant their creative and pro-
daotive faculties that they are
nnable to exercise them proper-
ly. Fear of failure and lack
of faith in one's ability is one
•fthe most potent causes of
fhtlure. Many people of splen-
did powers have attained only
mediocre success, and soms ate
total failures', because they set
bounds to thsir achievements,
beyond which they did not al-
low themselves to thlak that
O tbay could pass. They put
limitations to their ability;
thsy cast (tumbling blocks in
thuir way, by aiming only at
madiosrity or predicting fail-
ure for themselves, talking
their wares down instead of up,
ttwaigiag their business, and
belittling their powers

Texas Han in Georgia.
The Atlanta Coustitution
tells of a Texas man who want-
ed to whip the whole state of
Georgia.
He must have been a Hous-
tonian, a "tine drinkin' man"
and a chum of the Alkali Eye
man:
"The police tackled a Tartar
last week when they arrested a
stranger on Decatur street for
being drunk and disorderly.
The man was fP perfect speci-
men of physical manhood and
it took four officers to take him
to the police barracks. He
fought like a demon and did
uot give up until he was lock-
ed up in a cell. All he would
say about himself was that he
was from Texas and able to
whip any man in Georgia. At
the police barrack it required
the combined strength of six
m«n to get him into a cell.
When searched a pistol was
found in his pocket. His cash
bond was placed at #100. Af-
ter being locked up he began
to pray and the burden of his
praj/er was that God would un-
lock the prison door and give
him a chance to whip the
whole police force. He refus-
ed to give hi* name."
