The Great Taco Run raises money for the
Katy Trail and Trinity Strand
On Sunday, September 30, The
Great Taco Run 10- mile, 10K and 5K
presented by Lukes Locker, will take
place at Victory Park near American
Airlines Center, four days before
National Taco Day. Proceeds from
the event will benefit two local
organizations, the Trinity Strand Trail
and the Friends of the Katy Trail. The
two organizations created the event
as a way to jointly raise funds for their
two projects, which will eventually
connect at the race s start -finish
area.
“These organizations need the
support of private citizenry,” said Matt
Lucas, President of Lukes Locker
and President of the Friends of the
Katy Tail. “This will be an
unforgettable race day experience
that we re sure you II want to come
back to year after year. Not only will
beginning runners get the chance to
run for a great cause, but
experienced runners can use the 10
mile distance as training for a half or
full-marathon this Fall.”
Runners and walkers running the
10- Mile and 10K will start at 7:00
a.m. with the 5K beginning shortly
after at 8:00 a.m. Registration is
currently open and includes an Asics
tech t-shirt, refreshments and live
music by The Stoneleighs. Beer, soft
drinks, and water will also be served
as part of the event. Prizes will be
awarded to the top three winners in
each race category. Register today at
www.thegreattacorun.com.
The Great Taco Run Post Party and
Picnic will take place after the race.
Runners will not only get to enjoy
breakfast tacos from some of Dallas
top establishments, but will vote for
“fan favorite” taco using their race bib.
In addition, local food critics will be
onsite to vote for “critics favorite”.
Participating restaurants include:
Fuzzy s Tacos, Velvet Taco, Urban
Taco, Rock and Roll Taco, Del Taco,
Taco Bueno, Mama s Daughters
Diner, E-bar, Hacienda on
Henderson, Taco Stop, and Mias.
The winning restaurant(s) voted by
the fans & critics will be announced
on October 4th - National Taco Day
and will receive “The Greatest Taco”
trophy designed by local artist Brad
Oldham.
The Great Taco Run is currently
looking for runners, volunteers, and
sponsors to participate in the event. If
you or anyone you know are
interested in participating, please visit

The Friends of the Katy Trail is a
nonprofit organization created to raise
money for the design, construction,
maintenance and security of the Katy
Trail, a linear park on 30 acres in the
densest part of Dallas. Through a
multi-million capital campaign, the
cooperation of the city, county, state
and federal funding agencies, and its
membership, the Friends of the Katy
Trail has helped secure more than
$20 million toward its goal of creating
a great American park.
Friends of the Trinity Strand Trail is a
nonprofit formed to spearhead the
planning, construction and
enhancement of a 7.8 mile non-
motorized hike and bike trail along the
original Trinity River watercourse,
adjacent to downtown Dallas. The
Trinity Strand Trail will improve air
quality, provide recreational
opportunities and promote ecotourism
for our citizens and visitors to the city.
The Strand will extend the city s trail
system and enhance the range and
benefits of the Katy Trail and Trinity
River Project recreational facilities.
