Lamar Tech to Host
NCAA Cage Tourney
Lamar Tech will play in
and host the NCAA South-
west Regional basketball
tournament March 6-7 in
McDonald Gym.
While Lamar Tech will
be making its fourth ap-
pearance in the regional
tourney, it will be the first
time for the Cardinals to
host the event.
Four teams will compete
in the tournament for the
right to advance to the
national championship
tourney in Evansville,
Indiana March 12-14.
Besides Lamar Tech,
which has a 17-5 season
record, the only other team
qualified for the tourney is
the Southeast Missouri
Indians, winners of the
Missouri Athletic Associa-
tion cage title.
Two other teams, both at-
large entries, will be
named in the near future,
probably this weekend.
Coach Jack Martin's
Cardinals went to the
regional finals last year
where they bowed 93-84 to
Southern Illinois in an
overtime period. In 1962,
the Redbirds finished third
in the tournament by beat-
ingAbilene Christian 83-64
after losing to host Arkan-
sas State 66-65 in the first
round.
Southeast Missouri, which
won the 1962 tournament by
besting Arkansas State,
hosted the event last year
and lost to Southern Illinois
in the opening round.

National tournament in
Evansville, Indiana, on
March 11-12, 13.
