has been set for May 13 at
7:30 p.m. in the Cardinal

Prerequisite for mem-
bership in the society is a
2.5 grade point average as

Goes National
Adding to Lamar Tech's
group of growing national
fraternities will be the
formal initiation of Sigma
Phi Gamma into the national
fraternity of Pi Kappa A1 -
pha. The initiation is sche -
duled for today and Satur -
day. Conducted by national
officers in thebusiness
building, over thirty can-
didates will receive the de-
grees of membership.
Sigma Phi Gamma became
a Pi Kappa Alpha colony in
December of 1957. The new-
ly initiated colony will be
in district 10 of Pi Kappa
Alpha. District 10 includes
all of Texas and parts of
Oklahoma.

Dr. M. L. McLaughlin was

tary-treasurer. The Exe-
cutive Board for the 1958-
19 5 9 year will consist of
Dr. Wm. T. Fitzgerald,
member-at-large, and Dr.

outgoing president, Dr.
Rippy, stressed the rapid
growth of the AAUP on the
Lamar campus and future

Smith has scheduled a
trip to University Supply
and Equipment Company in
Fort Worth for May 1/ to
inspect the progress in
production of the year-
book.
A concert of popular and
symphonic music will be
presented bv the Lamar
Tech Band'- tonight
at 8:00 p.m. in the auditor-
ium.
The first portion of the
program will be presented
bytne symphonic band and
will include a march ar-
ranged by Waymon Bullock,
a senior music major from
Lufkin. Also featured will
ba a trumpet solo by Rich -
ard Burkhart. The band
will be conductedby
Cha rle s Wiley and Huot
Fisher.
"Laura", one of the pop-
ular songs to be presented
by the dance band/was ar-
ranged by Billy Rogers,
sophomore music major
from Port Arthur, and
French horn solo by Laur-
el Brownlee. "When Your
Lover Is Gone" and "Tea
for Two" are also on the
program.
The proceeds from the
concert will go to provide
three scholarships for La-
mar students. Recipients
will be announced in the
late summer.
Lamar students will be
admitted on their activity
cards. Tickets for High
School students are priced
at 50 cents. Tickets may
be obtained in the Student
Union or at the box office.
Alpha PsiOmega is in
charge of the ticket sales.
