IEEE Eta Kappa
Nn host banquet
A joint banquet between the student
branch of the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers, Inc., (IEEE)
and Eta Kappa Nu will be held Monday
at 7:30 p.m. in the Spindletop Room on
the 8th floor of the Gray Library.
Guest speaker will be Naaman J.
Woodland, associative professor of
history. The topic will be “Music in
Early America.”
Plant sale set
for March 26
Sigma Delta Pi, Spanish honor
society, and Pi Delta Phi, French honor
society, will hold their annual plant sale
Saturday at 4060 Kenneth from 8 a.m. to
1 p.m.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit
the treasuries of the clubs.
Many different types of plants will be
available, according to Dr. M. LeRoy
Ellis, head, Department of Modern
Languages, sponsor of Pi Delta Phi.
Several species of begonias, ground
covers, and border plants will be
available. There will also be plants
suitable for hanging baskets and pot-
ting.
TSEA meets
today, 3:30
Texas Student Education Association
(TSEA) will meet today at 3:30 p.m. in
Room 101, Education Building.
Topic of the meeting is “Mock In-
terview.” A mock job interview will be
conducted.
Hulsey speaks
tonight to AMA
The American Marketing Association
(AMA) will meet tonight in Room 118,
Galloway Business Building at 7:30.
Guest speaker for the evening will be
Ernie Hulsey, vice president of
National Loss Prevention Service, Inc.
His topic is the necessity of security in
business.
April 1 deadline
for NFSPS contest
The deadline for the National
Federation of State Poetry Societies,
Inc., (NFSPS), contest is April 1.
A brochure containing contest
specifics can be obtained by sending a
self-addressed, stamped, legal-size (9Vi
x 4Vi inch) envelope to Alice Briley,
1121 Major Ave. NW;, Albuquerque, N.
M. 87107. Thirty-one categories of the
contest are open to non-members. Non-
members are required to pay a $1 fee
per category entered.
The winning entries will be an-
nounced at the NFSPS Annual Con-
vention to be held in Hot Springs
National Park, Ark., June 22-25. The
winning poems will be published in a
prize anthology.
OA dinner meeting
scheduled tonight
The Office Administration (OA) Club
will hold a covered dish dinner tonight
at 7 p.m. at the home of Terri Davis.
Maps to Davis’ home will be
available in the OA Office.
Brenda Cowen Farris, a certified
public secretary and recent graduate of
Lamar, will speak on CPS.
Members are requested to sign up in
the OA Office and specify what dish will
be brought. The OA club will furnish the
main dish.
Lamar computers
place 2nd in meet
A team from Lamar’s Association of
Computing Machinery (ACM) placed
second in programming contests held
at Texas A&M recently.
The Lamar team, consisting of
Valorie Brouse, Keith Mott, Robert
Rose and Roy Trahan, was in com-
petition with 19 other teams in the small
college division. Schools from Texas,
Louisiana and Oklahoma were
represented.
The test consisted of three problems
which were to be solved in three hours.
The Lamar team completed two
problems with few computer runs to
finish second.
The team of Matt Colletti, Tim
Magnuson, Susan Mayfield and Randy
Spurlock also competed for Lamar.
