Dunn to speak
Dr. James Dunn, director of the
Christian Life Commission in Dallas for
Texas Baptists, will be a guest speaker
at the Baptist Student Union Sept. 7 and
8at6:30p. m.
Dr. Dunn will speak on “Political
Issues in 1976.”
Alcoa scholarship
The Alcoa Foundation of Pittsburgh,
Pa., is continuing this year its support
of four annual scholarships at Lamar in
the field of engineering.
Presenting a check for $3000 to Dr.
Gray and leaders of the LU College of
Engineering was Orval L. Royer, per-
sonnel manager at Alcoa’a Point Com-
fort plant.
The funds will be used to support four
scholarships of $750 each. Two scholar-
ships will be awarded to chemical
engineering students, one to an in-
dustrial engineering student, and the
fourth will be awarded to a candidate to
be decided on by the faculty of the
College of Engineering
Alpha Phi Omega
Alpha Phi Omega, the national ser-
vice fraternity, recently installed Ben
Morris, Mike Vrolyic, Rick Casey and
Allen Benson as pledges.
Alpha Phi Omega also signed Cindy
Morgan and Vicki Renner as APO Little
Sister pledges.
Lambda Tau
The Lambda Tau Service Sorority
held their initiation ceremony Sunday,
August 20, on the eighth floor of the
Mary and John E. Gray Library. Those
initiated were: Hilda Abshire, Patty
Casey, Susan Hardin, Diane Jordan,
Peggy Lackey, Candy Martin, and
Mary Spears. Susan Hardin was elected
Student Government Association
representative and Janet Mims, repor-
ter. They will begin their formal rush in
the next two weeks.
Lambda Chi Alpha
Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and
Kappa Delta sorority are sponsoring a
Hawaiian luau on Friday, Sept. 10, at 8
Chi Alpha meeting
Lamar's chapter of Chi Alpha will
have their first meeting on Tuesday,
Aug. 31, in Room 106 of the Setzer Cen-
ter at 7:30 p.m.
Chi Alpha is part of an international
Christian campus organization en-
couraging anyone to have a “personal
relationship with Jesus Christ.” The
club invites all to come and worship, or
to just come and observe.
The group will hold regular meetings
on the first and third weeks of each
month on Thursdays from 11 a.m. until
1 p.m. in Room 125 of the Setzer Center.
On the second and third weeks of each
month, meetings will be held on
Tuesdays at7:30p.m. in Room 125.
Chi Alpha invites all students
(whether they come to the meetings or
not) to contact Jesus and ask for his life
renewal plan. The group’s motto is:
“Because of Christ, we have his power
on campus.”

in addition to entertainment. There will

Kappa Alpha Psi
Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity has
organized a "Men Interested in Kappa”
(MIK( Club.
The club consists of seven members
and was established to prepare the
members for pledgeship. They also
assist the fraternity with service
projects.
Officers of the club are Kenneht
Minkins, Beaumont senior, president;
Anthony Bell, Beaumont sophomore,
vice president; Ricky Patin, Beaumont
sophomore, secretary; Ernest Gibbs,
Beaumont sophomore, treasurer; and
Horace Tyler, Beaumont sophomore,
historian.
Other members are John Miller, Prot
Arthur Sophmore and Calvin Harris,
Beaumont sophomore.

“Jesus Christ Superstar”
tryouts set for Tuesday
Tryouts for “Jesus Christ Superstar”
will be held Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. in
Room 228, Music Speech building.
The play, to be directed by Gary
Garrison, sophomore drama major,
will be an experiment in concept
theatre. It is to be a musical without
music with emphasis on rhythms,
beats, movement, tone and in-
terpretation. Jewel Blanton, regents
professor of communication, will super-
vise the production.
Additional tryouts will by announced
for a later date. Production dates will
be Dec. 3 and 4 in the Lamar Theatre.
Pool tournament scheduled
to begin Wednesday in Setzer
The first of a series of four pool tour-
naments sponsored by the Setzer
Student Center Council (SSCC) will
begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Setzer
Center games area.
The winners of each of the four tour-
naments will compete for first place.
The winner will then compete in the
American College Union International
(ACUI) tournament.
Marketers
to meet
Wednesday
A meeting of allMarketing majors
will be held in the Setzer Center
Ballroom on Wednesday, Sept. 8, bet-
ween 8 and 9 p.m.
Students that have a marketing coun-
seling folder are urged to bring this
folder to the meeting.
Dr. Charles McCullough, marketing
coordinator, says that it is extremely
important that all marketing majors at-
tend this meeting. Material will be
distributed during the meeting that will
be of help in pursuing a marketing
degree and completing necessary steps
in graduation.
Straight pocket pool (call each pocket
and ball number before shooting is to be
played. There will be men’s and
women’s divisions. Anyone interested
in entyering the topurnament should go
to the games area Tuesday night. There
is a 50 cent entry fee to cover the cost of
trophies for first, second and third
places.
