The railroad from Xutt Station te Lake
Valley progresses vory slowly. The
wages of laborers h ve been ert dowe to
$25 a eienth and beard, aad tbe cot*
tractors canaet get mea te work at those
rates.
The Lake Valley Now Era has tbeoe
pleasant words to say concerning a
branch establishment ef eae of o
stores: "Messrs. Lightbody * Jeates
actually earry in stock a mere complete
line of elothlng and dry goods thoa lo to
be fcuod even at Deming, aad their arti-
cles are net surpassed in quality, ele-
gance, style or finish, hy may we have
s-een ia the territory.
About twelve miles from Nutt, in the
mountains, there is aa old Mexican tuu-
ael running in 600 feet,, and net far fro*
a small spring. The timbers ere almost
rotted .away, and the lion implements
lying a beat are so eaten with rust that
they crumble at a touch. There is n
large amount of heavy aad apparently
rich slag in the vicinity, specimens of
which have been handled, which shew
that there was once a smelter there. Of
the ore i.i the tunnel there are different
accounts. However, the discoverer says
that.tbe ore averages eighteeh ounces of
gold to the ton. Another miner reports
it to be a carbonate claim and the slag
'contains lead in largo quantities.—
