Three Letter Carriers
Crooked.
Chicago, Oct. 15.—A special to
the Times Herald from Washing-
ton says that the mail which left
Washington last night for Chicago
carried 173 letters which will cre-
ate an earthquake in the Chicago
postoflice. They were sent by the
first assistant^ postmaster general
and addressed to letter carriers in
Chicago. They notify 173 men
that charges have been tiled
against them sufficient to cause
dismissal from the service and
thev will be given ten days to
show cause why they should not
be removed. Derelictions of the
most serious nature have been dis-
covered among the letter carriers.

New York, Oct. 15.—News has
reached the city of the death of
General Erasmus Darwin Kejes in
Nice, France, on October 11.
General Keyes was born in
Brimfield, Mass., May 29, 1810.
When a child his family removed
to Kennebec county, Maine. He
had the privilege of a common
school education, but when 14
years old developed a strong at-
tachment for military life. He
was admitted ae a cadet to West
Point duriDg the year 1828 and
and was graduated in 1832. In
1837 he was aide to General Scott,
having been appointed as assistant
adjutant general with the rank of
captain. In 1818 he went to the
c-ials of the office Have been caught frontier and did garrison duty un-
in the net. The news will come
to Postmaster Hesiny; and the car-
riers themselves like lightning
from a clear sky. The state of
affairs disclosed in the Chicago
office and snb-stations has aston-
ished the officers of the postoflice
department in Washington. The
service has been found even worse
than it was in Philadelphia where
a wholesale clearing out and re-
organization was necessary.

be spread upon our minutes, that
they also be published in our city

A Brilliant Wedding at Val-
ley View Last Night.
Last evening Kev. J. W. Hill
and a party of Gainesville friends
of Mr. W. E Huston and Miss
Viola May Head went down to
Valley View on the 7 o'clock San-
ta Ke train to marry and witness
the marriage of that young couple
at the residence ot the bride's
father, Mr. K. P. Head.
The contracting parties and
their attendant friends are well
known in Cooke county, and the
affair was one of the most bril'iant
private weddings that has taken
place in Valley View.
A large number of guests not
only witnessed the ceremony that
made of those twain one flesh, but
were immediately afterward con-
ducted to the spacious dining room
where they enjoyed a spread not
to be compassed. The table was
a beauty. It did not "groan'1 as
it is commonly reported to do on
such occasions, but it smiled, it Figured lawns worth 5c for 3c

freshed in this way and by a
"feast of reason and a flow of
soul" in the brilliantly lighted and
well fitted parlors the Gainesville
contingent, with the bride and

10:50 train full of praises for all
they had seen, heard and tasted.
