Hot Springs, Ark., Nov. 2
The big fight is off, and off for
good. It is easy to see now that
it never was really on as far as
the state of Arkansas was con-
cerned. Not only is the Corhett-
Fitzsimmons match dead and
buried, but the Maher-O'Donnell
and Smith-Ryan contests are yet
in the future.
Gov. Clarke has won out on
every point at issue and has
scored an unqualified victory
over the prize fighting element.
Corbett is to-nigh t at his train-
ing quarters at Spring Lake and
Fitzsimmons in Little Rock, where
he will remain until next Tues-
day.
There is no chance whatever of
the men coming together, as Fitz-

Democratic free • silver editors
who were here to-day, after a con-
ference held at the Farm and
Ranch buildinc at the fair
grounds, decided to form an ac-
tive permanent organization to
aid in the cause of the whi<e met-
al in the next campaign. A tem-
porary organization was formed
with L. D. Lillard, of the Fairfield
Recorder, as chairman, and B. G.
Senter, of the Fort Worth Ga-
zette, as secretary.
The following call to effect per-
manent organization was issued:
A meeting is hereby called at
the Windsor Hotel, Dallas, at 10
o'clock a. m. January 15th, to ef-
fect a permanent organization of
members of the Democratic press

Fatal Wreck in West Virginia.
Wheeling, W. Va., Nov. !}.—
The worst railroad wreck in the
immediate vicinity of Wheeling
for many years occurred shortly
before 10 o'clock at Elm Grove,
five miles east, on the Pittsburg
