London, Nov. 15.—The Times this
morning devotes a leading article to
the celebration at St. Paul's yester-
day in honor of the centennial of
theconsecratiou of the first JjisJjop
of tbe American Episcopal church.
rn the course of the article the
'imes says; "If ever it is separat-
ed from the state, the Church o.
Ingland may learn from American
)recedent that it need not fearex?
in^jen or humiliation. The Arner
ican church has set an example
which the Church of England would
do well to imitate—the services o
laymen on equal foating with the
clergy." The Times believes yes
terday's commemoration will do
much to promote the spirit of good
will between the two great branches
of the Episcopal church

A Prima Donna's Misfortune.
A Paris dispatch 6ays: Mile. Van
Zandt, the American prima donna,
was seized with vertigo while per-
forming the part of Besina in the
"Barber of Seville" at the Opera
Comique Saturday night, and was
obliged to retire before the last act.
Her anxiety not to disappoint the
audience led her to appear in spite
of her physical disability and
against the advice of her friends.
The incident afforded an opportuni'
ty for her enemies to spread the re-
>ort that the lady was intoxicated,
which is contradicted by the certi
icate from her physician.
