VERNON RECORD EDITION
The Vernon Dally Record re-
cently published a very special
edition in celebration of the town’s
6th anniversary. The edition, pub-
lished in five-column form, con-
tained 132 pages; and that should
have been 200, according to the
editors.
Different phases were handled in
special sections. The first section
was the regular edition, but it car-
ried two large pictures on the
front page that represented Ver-
non then and now. A good deal
was said later on about the then
and now features. Needless to say,
our neighbor city has gotton to
be some place; not as large, per-
haps, as the largest, but as good
as the best and better than the
rest.
The publishers voiced the opin-
ion that this special edition car-
ried more square inches of pic-
tures than ony edition ever pub-
lished in Texas. The Record has
its own picture making and en-
graving plant, and nothing but
lack of space limited the number of
pictures that were run.
One of the articles brought out
the fact that oil was at first
ignored in Wilbarger County. BuJ
it is readily known that the present
progress of town and county wo\ld
look a lot smaller without this
same oil. One of the sections is
devoted to organizations, and it is
not hard to imagine how well
Vernon is coming along here.
Every one of these organizations
is reposible for progress and wel-
fare in its own field.
Pictures are given of business
houses, churches, schools, resi-
dences and industrial plants. It all
represents present and potential
wealth, and a position of influence
and power in this section of the
state. The banks of Vernon are
carrying more than $20,000,000 on
deposit. Among the industries play-
ed up prominently is that of farm-
ing, which is the basis of much
of the county’s present progress.
Pictures are given of the cattle
industry, and particularly the Wag-
goner ranch.
The Record Company has joined
with business interests of Vernon
in .an enduring work that goes
far toward clinching progress al-
ready made, and toward other ad-
vancement that will be made Con-
gratutions from this paper. An edi-
tion like that envolves an amount
of work that makes a newspaper
man tired to think of; and any
newspaper that makes a creditable
showing on a special edition of any
kind deserves a big hand for his
effort.
