Progressive Club
Africa was the program topic for the
Progressive Study Club on Sept. 20,
presented by Linda Clarke.
Having spent 18 years in Africa, she
told firsthand experiences of living in a
very different part of the world. She
went there as a teenager with her par-
ents, met and married Peter Clarke, who
was an engineer from England.,
She stressed the "Legend of the White
Man’s Grave," explaining that for every
40 that go in only one comes out. Al-
though diseases were widespread, acci-
dents were the most feared.
Martha Anderson presented the
Hears About Africa
thought for the day about some un-
known places that are interesting and
told about the Chapel of the Lighted
Lamps.
Roll Call, "An interesting fact about
Africa," was answered by Martha Ander-
son, Marlene Nelson, Marilyn Foster,
Judine Wilks, Jan Irlbeck, Georgia Proc-
tor, Mary Del Toles, Cheryl Swinbum,
Emily Hill, Jessie Rawson, Betty
Womack, Marge Dawson, Loveta Love,
Marian Van zee and Linda Clarke.
Marlene Nelson was hostess for the
meeting.
