Playoffs Berth Still In Sight
Lady Hornets Pound River Road, 58-26
By Casey Westenrieder
Herald Editor
Like a well-oiled machine, the Lady
Hornets rolled over River Road Friday
in Tulia handing the Lady Cats a 58-26
loss.
Tulia (11-13 overall, 5-3 district)
started the game with a 10-0 run and
continued to pound River Road, steal-
ing the ball and blocking shots with
ease.
The Lady Cats (3-22 overall, 1 -7 dis-
trict) started out slow, but never seemed
to get on track against the Lady Hornets.
“(The win) just put us into position to
get into the playoffs,’’coach Dale Morris
said. “We just have to win the rest of the
games we play.”
Senior Tami Altman set the stage for
victory scoring 14 points, including two
three-pointers. Freshman Zuri Bossett
and sophmorc Crissi Brooks accounted
for 10 points each.
When the halftime buzzer sounded,
the Lady Hornets had a commanding
30-8 lead and never let up.
Tulia wore out the River Road team
in the second half, allowing only 19
points.
“We have to be ready to go out and
play,” Bossett said of the victory and
upcoming playoffs. “Wecan’tjustthink
we can play, we have to know we can
play. We have to do everything right.”
Altman said the game Friday night
was a good victory for the team and is
something the team works hard to ac-
complish.
“We try to get to the point where we
have a killer instinct,” she said. “It’s
getting closer and closer to the end of
the regular season and we want to be in
the playoffs.”
Morris said the teamwork of the Lady
Hornets has come along well, consider-
ing he had only two returning starters
this year.
“It’s taken a while to build up a
chemistry, but we’re coming together
and getting better,” he said.
Tulia played Sanford-Fritch Tuesday,
but results were not available by Herald
press time.

Hornets Win One, Lose One;
Hang On To Second Place
The Hornets improved their district
record by one last week over River Road,
beating the Wildcats 68-61.
The Hornets lost to Childress, 56-72
last Tuesday night at Childress, who has
clinched the playoffs with a 62-49 win
over Perryton last Friday.
“This win (against River Road) al-
lows us to still control our destiny for the
playoffs,” Coach Tommy Miller said of
his Hornet team. This win kept the
Hornets in second place in district 1 -3 A.
Coach Miller said Tulia must win the
rest of their games to be in the playoffs.
“We eliminated a lot of turnovers.
Our shooting was better and the players
are beginning to jell as a team. They
have shown a lot of character.
“I thought River Road played excep-
tionally well,” Coach Miller said.

an always tough Childress team in
overtime, 48-43.

a blowout at home Friday night, 64-21.

Ladies fought through adversity to gel a
tough, exciting win.
“llie Childress girls really gave us all
we could handle, combined with cold
shooting and foul troubles throughout
the game.
"I'm really proud of the maturity our
team showed when we were against the
ropes. Childress is a tough place to win,”
Coach Steve Schmidt said.
“In the River Road game the Ladies
came out strong and put it away early,
which is what we needed. We weren't in
the mood for another overtime game.
I’m really proud of them getting the job
