tening to records and swimming,”
says Sally Grant, freshman.

tended Gary High School where
she graduated in 1958.
Among her honors during high
school was majorette two years,
drum major one year, cheerleader,
beauty, treasurer of the band and
also band sweetheart.
Other favorites are the movie
“Kings Go Forth”, actor Aldo Ray,
actress Elizabeth Taylor, song “No
Other Arms; No Other Lips”.
Sally’s future plans are to finish
college at Stephen F. Austin State
College. Afterwards, she plans to

“For caps and gowns our lives
we pay,” to quote Lowell, but at
any rate the important measure-
ments are now being taken in the
secretary’s office; Mrs. Bertram
and Mrs. Johnson are not practic-
ing to become tailors as was
rumored.
The unofficial list included some
forty-eight candidates for diplomas
this May.
Some of the students are very
elated that the time of year is
nearing, but most of them feel that
they are surely going to miss “old

Herbert Plans
Late Marriage
“I do not plan on getting mar-
ried until I am at least thirty years
old,” stated Herbert “Rock” My-
ers. “The reason I’m not is because
my dad didn’t,” he continued.
A sophomore at Panola, Rock,
as he is called by all, comes from
Logansport, La. While in high
school there, he lettered in bas-
ketball and track for three years.
Rock enjoys watching Maverick
on television. At the movies, he
enjoys seeing Paul Newman and
Kim Novak; he considers his fav-
orite movie to be Some Came Run-
ning.
Listed among his likes are rock
and roll music, going to the Diary
Queen, the color red, and the song
“This Could Go on Forever.”
Oyster stew and strawberry short-
cake are his favorite foods.
His ideal girl is one who is
about five feet and six inches tall,
brunette, sweet, and intelligent.
Rock’s pet peeve is girls who
go steady, unless they are going
steady with him. “Stuck-up” girls
find no favor with Rock.
At the present time, he has no
definite plans for the future.
Rock is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
C. C. Myers of Logansport, La.
Panola.”
The date for the exercises is
May the twenty-ninth.

Jerry Examines
Damaging Fungus
Jerry Bazer, sophomore, is doing
research on a fungus which attacks
willow trees.
He first got some spores of the
fungus and put them into agar
agar, a growing medium. It devel-
oped there and then it was trans-
ferred to a starch medium. Starch
closely resembles the cellulose of
the trees that the fungus attacks.
The next step is to put these
spores back on the willow trees
and get them to grow there. Then
Jerry will isolate the fungus again,
trying to find something that will
kill the fungus.
Jerry, a forestry major, is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Bazer
of Carthage.
Ponies To Meet
Allen For Battle
Today Coach Griffin’s connois-
seurs of the diamond will be at
Allen Academy in Bryan for their
conference tilt there.
This Thursday the Ponies will
host Henderson County of Athens
on the local field. This too is a zone
battle.
The Ponies were rained out in
their scheduled game with Narvar-
ro. The Navarro team made the
trip but a steady down pour forced
the postponement.
The Ponies did not see action
against Barksdale as planned, be-
cause of schedule conflicts.
Panola is now on top of the con-
ference and stands a good chance
of conquering the zone.
See our spring slacks and
suits now.
