Pony Sports Views
BY J. C. KELLY
First of all this week, I would
like to commend everyone for the
really wonderful attendance shown
at the recent Pony games. Cer-
tainly to be recognized is the group
of students from Marshall. Noise-
making definitely is their No. 1
specialty.
Let’s don’t slack up now be-
cause the big game is coming up.
Panola plays Aiten Academy Sat-
urday night in a very important
game. This is a “must” game for
the Ponies. Therefore, it being a
Saturday night, I see no reason
why we can’t pack the gymnasium.
BEAT ALLEN ACADEMY! ! !
Late figures tell us that Jerry
Snelling, that sharpshooter from
Converse, La., is one of the lead-
ing scorers in our zone. According
to my figures, unofficial, Jerry has
scored 381 points in twenty-four
games. This is an average of just
better than seventeen points per
game. That percentage is very
good in anyone’s league.
It takes a good rebounding team
to win ball games. Panola this
year has a real hustler along this
line. He is Bill McKelvy, who has
been on the boards very consis-
tently. In the recent Navarro game
Bill captured a total of twenty-one
rebounds. Any coach will tell you
that this clip is certainly tops.
Badminton anyone? That is the
call from the men’s Phys. Ed.
classes now. Instructor, Bill Grif-
fin, has his students batting that
“birdie” all over the gymnasium.
At the conclusion of each class,
however, Coach Griffin has every-
one running exasperating wind
sprints. This exercise is being giv-
en in order to condition the men
for the coming Physical endur-
ance tests next month.
To our dismay, the Rinky-Dinks
were beaten last week by Waskom.
Recently, Jerry Lee poured in
34 points in a Rinky - Dink
victory.
COME
PONIES PLAY
ALLEN ACADEMY
The Ponies play their last regular
season game Saturday night when
they will be host to Allen Academy.
This will be a conference game
for both clubs. The Academy Ca-
dets downed the Panola squad at
their last meeting some 92 to 67.
So the home team will be seeking
revenge this Saturday. Be sure to
attend.
