Makes Team
Charlie Hunter is a freshman
at Panola College and a member
of the basketball team. He play-
ed his prep ball at M tchell and
Airline High in Bossier City, La.
The 6’1” player received many
honors in his four varsity years
of play. Some of the honors he
received in his high school ca-
reer were All State, Honorable
Mention on the All-American
team, annd All Regional. He was
selected as captain of the bas-
ketball team his junior and se-
nior years.
Charlie is majoring in Physi-
cal Education while at Panola.
He plans to further his education
at Southwest Christian College in
Terrel, Texas after he finishes
at Panola College.
Beauties for the year are freshman Sherri Calhoun,
sophomore Jan Jones and freshman Tucker Oden.

‘beautiful girls on the campus
by a panel of judges at a re-
ception Friday night in the
school’s student center.
The girls are Jan Jones of
Carthage, Tucker Oden and
'Sherry Calhoun both of Ely-
sian Fiedds.
Three male students were also
selected as school beaus and
will serve as escorts for the
campus beauties. The men are
Bill Pederson of Houston, Da-
vid White of Jasper, and Wayne
Woodley of Elysian Fields.
The beauties and beaus were
selected by a panel of judges
from Stephen F. Austin State
University at a two hour recep-

Miss Jones is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Jones of
Carthage. She is yearbook edi-
tor, a member of Phi Theta
Kappa, Green Jackets, and a
former member of the newspap-
er staff.

of Mr. and Mrs. Tom B. Oden

cheerleader and freshman re-
presentative to the Student
Council.

Mrs. Eugene H. White of Jas-
per. David is a member of
B.S U., and a member of the
baseball team.
Woodley is Student Council
president and a member of
Phi Theta Kappa. He is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Woodley,
Jr. of Elysian Fields.

Basketball Wrap-up
With the addition of a larger
auditorium, the present audito-
rium will be made into two
classrooms and a lecture hall
similar to that presently in the
Science Building.
The Speech and Related Arts
Building will be one of three new
buildings being added to Panola
campus.
Panola, which was down by as
much as 21 points in the first
half, fought back to tie Lon Mor-
ris 85-85 alt the end of regulation
play, and then beat the Bearcats
in double overtime.
Charles Hunter, the ex-Airline
Bossier City eager, hit two one-
and-one free throws in the fading
seconds of the second overtime
session.
The Ponies placed five players
in double figures paced by Na-
tional Junior College scoring
leader Greg Procell with 30. Al-
so contributing to the Pony at-
tack was Jimmy Melanson, 26;
Lloyd Cole, 12; Charlie Hunter,
13; John Murray, 15; Willie Se-
ward and David Anthony, with
6 and 3 points respectively.
Grayson was dumped by Pa-
nola with a score of 90-83 as
Greg Procell led the scoring
with a total of 39 points. At the
end of the first half Panola led
53-43 with Procell scoring 29
points, but in the second half
Procell was held to ten points
as the Grayson defense stiffen-
ed. The Ponies’ total scoring in
the second half was 37 points.
Second highest scorer was Da-
vid Antoney with 14 points. Pa-
nola has a 9-12 record and is 1-2
in the conference play.
It was recently announced that
Panola’s Greg Procell has the
top scoring average in the Na-
tional Junior College Athletic
Association with a 33.2 points
per game average. Other top Pa-
nola scorers are Antoney with
14.5 points per game and Melan-
son with 11.3 points per game.
The team average is 92 points
per game.
