springs adapted to move said piston rod and
piston inwardly or downwardly within the
cylinder. 14L designates the series of cocks.
In this construction, the parts work in a simi-
5 lar manner to the parts embodied in the con-
struction illustrated in Fig. 1, except that
only one piston is used instead of two.
Having thus described the invention, what
is claimed as new is.
xo 1. In a governor, the combination of an air
cylinder provided with an air inlet, and a se-
ries of vent cocks, means for opening and
closing the respective cocks, a piston mount-
ed to move within the cylinder by the pres-
15 sure of air therein, a rod secured to said pis-
ton, and means secured to said rod for resist-
ing the pressure of air exerted on said piston.
2. In a governor, the combination of an
air cylinder provided with an air inlet, and a
20 series of vent cocks, the series extending lon-
gitudinally of the cylinder, means-for open-
ing and closing the respective cocks, a piston
mounted to move in said cylinder by the
pressure of air therein, a rod secured to said
25 piston and extending out through the head ofthe cylinder, a cross bar secured to said rod,
and contractile springs secured to said cross
bar and to the cylinder and adapted to resist
the outward movement of the piston.
3. A governor of the character described, 30
comprising an air cylinder provided with an
air inlet and an air pressure gage and also
provided with a longitudinally extending se-
ries of vent 'cocks, means for opening and
closing the respective cocks, a piston mount- 35
ed in said cylinder and movable by the pres-
sure of air therein, a piston rod secured to
said piston and extending out through the
head of the cylinder, a cross bar connected to
said rod, and contractile springs secured to 40
said cross bar and said cylinder and adapted
to resist the movement of the piston as it is,
acted upon by the air pressure.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature
in presence of two witnesses.
