UNITED
STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GAETANO PALLADINO, OF EL- PASO, TEXAS.-
EXTENSION-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 730,473, dated June 9, 1903.
Application filed November 25, 1902. Serial No. 132,795. (No model.)lo all whom it may/ concern:
Be it known that I, GAETANO PALLADINO,
a citizen of the United States, residing at El
Paso, in the county of E.Paso, State of Texas,
5 have invented certain new and useful Im-
provements in Extension-Tables; and I do
hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to
to which it appertains to make and use the same..
This invention relates to extension-tables
such as are employed for dining, and it has.
for its object to provide a table which may
be easily and quickly adjusted to different
tS lengths and in which when the table is closed
or adjusted to its minimum length the leaves
will be contained in the body of the table in-
stead of having to be removed therefrom, as
is usual.
20 A further object of the invention is to pro-
vide a construction which will occupy a mini-
mum of room when closed and in which the
adjustment may be accomplished with ease
and speed.
25 Other objects and advantages of the inven-
tion will be understood- from the following
description.
In the drawings forming a portion of this
specification, and in which like numerals-of
30 reference indicate similar parts in the sev-
eral views, Figure 1 is a perspective view
showing the table in closed position. Fig. 2,
is a longitudinal section taken vertically
through the table and showing one of the
35 leaves in its extended position and the other
leaf in its folded position. Fig. 3 is a section
similar to Fig. 2 and showing both leaves ex-
tended. Fig. 4 is a section similar to Figs.
2 and 3 and showing both leaves folded. Fig.
io 5 is a bottom plan view of the table.
Referring now to the drawings, the-present
table comprises a body including the frame
5, consisting. of side portions having corner-
blocks 6, in which are engaged the supporting-
45 legs 7, and upon the upper faces of the corner-
blocks and flush. with the upper edges of the
sides of the frame 5 are the longitudinalpieces
8, which are connected midway of their ends
by the cross piece or brace 9, having trans-
50 verse slots 10 in its under side and in which
transverse slots are the .depending lugs or
stops 11. Against the under face of the crosspiece or brace is secured the strip 12, the ends
of which rest -against the inner faces of the
sides of the frame. The cross piece or brace 55
9 projects slightly above the upper edge of
the frame 5, and the ends of the brace are
slotted and receive the longitudinal pieces 8.
The cross-brace 9 is supported upon the strips
13, which are secured to the inner face of the 6o
frame 5 and rest with their ends against the
inner faces of the corner-blocks 6.
The table has the main top portion 14, which
projects at all sides slightly beyond the outer
.side faces of the frame 5 and is vertically 65
movable into and out of position to rest upon
the cross-brace 9, said cross-brace and the
strip 12 having alining perforations 15, which
receive the guide-pins 16', which are carried
by and depend from the top 14, the brace 9 70
having metal plates 16 set flush in its upper
face and perforated to aline with the perfo-
- rations of the brace and strip to prevent wear
of the brace.
Two extension-leaves 17 and 18 are pro- 75
vided, the thicknesses of which are such that
they may lie upon the frame 5 and support the
movable top 14 in conjunction with the brace
9, at which time said leaves will lie in contact
with the 'side faces of the brace, while their 8o
outer edges will be flush with the correspond-
ing edges of the top 14 or may lie spaced
slightly inwardly therefrom, as do also the
ends of the brace 9. The leaves 17 and 18 are .
carried upon the slide-bars 19, of which there 85
are a pair for each of the leaves, and these
slide-bars -are engaged in slots 20 in the sides
of the frame 5 and rest with their end portions
in the slots 10 of the cross-brace 9, so that when
the leaves are moved into and out of their 90
folded positions the slide-bars will move in the
slots, the outward movement of the leaves be-
ing limited by the upturned ends of plates 21,
which are secured to the under facesof the
inner end portions of the bars 19 and are 95
turned upwardly at their extremities to pro-
ject beyond the upper faces of the bars. The
bars 19. are tapered vertically in both direc-
tions from their middles, and as the under
sides of the bars rest against the bottoms of 1o3
the slots 20 the leaves 17 will be caused to rise
as they are drawn outwardly and to gradually
fall as they are moved-inwardly. As the leaves
move outwardly and upwardly the top 14 isNo. 730,473.
