UNITED STATES - PATENT - OFFICE.
HENRY C. ROBINSON, OF JACKSBORO, TEXAS.
SINGLETREE-HOOK AND TRACE-SECURING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 681,264, dated August 27, 1901.
Application filed January 4, 1901. Serial No. 42,089. (No model.)To all whlom it may concerns,:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. ROBINSON, a
Citizen of the United States, residing at Jacks-
boro, in the county of Jacks and State of
5 Texas, have invented new and useful Im-
provements in Singletree-Hooks and Trace-
Securing Devices, of which the following is a
specification.
My invention relates to singletree - hooks
to and trace-securing devices, the object being
to provide a simple and easily-manipulated
device of this character which may be readily
attached to the ends of a singletree and will
serve to hold the end of a trace in secure en-
5 gagement with the end of the singletree.
The construction of the improvement will
be fully described hereinafter in connection
With the accompanying drawings, which form
part of this specification, and its novel fea-
zo tures will be defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in per-
spective of one end of a singletree provided
With my improvement, and Fig. 2 is a hori-
zontal section of the same.
i5 The reference-numeral 1 designates a sin-
gletree, the end of which is encircled by a
band 2, provided with an offset 3, which con-
stitutes a keeper for a spring-clip consisting
of a strip of spring metal having one of its
30 ends 4 secured to the rear side of the single-
tree and bent upon itself to form a loop 5, the
free end of the strip extending into the offset
3, as clearly shown in the drawings.
The trace-hook 6 is formed with an integralscrew 7 at its inner end adapted to be screwed 35
into the end of the singletree. The hook is
formed with a longitudinal slot 8 to form par-
allel arms 9 and 10, each of which is formed
on its rear side with a recess 11, said recesses
serving as seats to receive a cross-bar 12, at- 40
tached to the rear end of a trace 13.
The loop 5 of the clip normally projects be-
tween the parallel arms of the hook and spans
the recesses 11, thus preventing the acci-
dental disengagement of the cross-bar 12 from 45
the singletree.
I claim-
1. The combination with a singletree, of a
trace-hook comprising parallel arms formed
with vertically-alined recesses, and a clip se- 50
cured to the singletree and extending oppo-
site the recesses in the arms in position to
confine the end fastening of a trace within said
recesses.
2. The combination with a singletree; of a 55
band encircling the end thereof and formed
with an offset; a strip of resilient metal sup-
ported within said offset and bent upon itself
to form a clip; and a trace-hook secured to
the end of the singletree and longitudinally 6o
slotted to form parallel arms, said arms being
provided with vertically-alined recesses.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature
in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY C. ROBINSON.
