The slots adjacent to the strip or tongue
facilitate the crimping of the flange at that
point, and the metal at the outer or lower ter-
minals of the slots is readily broken when it
5 is desired to tear the strip or tongue from the
cap for removing the latter.
The grooves and slots do not impair the
efficiency of the cap in retaining the sealing-
disk on the bottle.

nor details of construction may be resorted
to without departing from the spirit or sac-
rificing any of the advantages of this inven-
tion.
15 What I claim is-
1. A bottle-stopper comprising a metallic
cap provided with a locking-flange adapted
to be crimped or bent into locking contact
with a shoulder of a bottle, said cap having
20 a strip or tongue at one side of the locking-
flange and having a central weakened por-
tion, adapted to be readily torn off with the
strip or tongue, whereby the cap is removed,
substantially as described.
25 2. A bottle-stopper comprising a metal cap
having a crimped locking - flange and pro-vided at one side thereof with an integral
strip or tongue, said cap being provided at
its top with grooves or partial cuts disposed
in alinement with the side edges of the strip 30
or tongue, the locking -flange being slotted
between the latter and the grooves or cuts,
and a sealing-disk arranged within the cap,
substantially as described.
3. A bottle-stopper comprising a metallic 35
sealing-cap having a crimped or bent locking-
flange, and provided at one side with a strip
or tongue and being weakened opposite the
same, said tongue or strip being provided
with opposite openings and having the por- 40
tions separated through the formation of the
openings bent toward each other, and an ex-
tracting-string looped through the openings,
substantially as described.
