UNITED STATESPATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPHUS H. EUBANK, OF YSLETA, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO W. B. MERCHANT.
OF EL PASO, TEXAS.
WIRE CLAMP OR GRIP.No. 881,311.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented March 10, .1908.
Application filed May 11, 1907. Serial No. 373,109.Te all whom it may concern;:
Be it known that I, JOSEPHUs H. EUBANK,
a citizen of the United States, residing at
Ysleta, in the: county of El Paso and State
5 of Texas, have invented certain new and use-
ful Improvemepts in Wire Clamps or Grips,.
of which the following is a specification, ref-
arence being had therein to the accompany-
ing drawing.
10 My invention relates to-improvements in
wire clamps or grips and consists in novel
features of construction and the combina-
tion and arrangement of parts hereinafter
described and claimed.
15 One object of the' invention is to provide a
device of this character which will be of sim-
ple, strong, durable and comparatively. in-
expensive construction, and which will be
convenient and effective in use.
20 The above and other objects are accom-
plished in the preferred embodiment of my
invention, illustrated in' the accompanying
drawings, in which
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the im-
25 proved, clamp; Fig. 2 is- a sectional view of
the clamp ; and Fig. 3.is a perspective view!
of one member of the clamp.
My improved wire gripor clamp'.7, com-
prises a base block 11 and a removable clamp.,
30 block 12. These locks are preferably' of
rectangular.form and have their opposing in-
ner faces concavedd as showniat 1p so that
at their opposite edges are formed -opposing.
jaws 14 adapted to bite the wire inserted be-
.35. tween them: Projecting centrally from the
base block 11 is a stud or post 1.5 having at
its inner end a lateral or transverse recess 16
adapted to receive the wire W so that the
flatter may be centrally disposed in the clamp.
40- for a purpose presently explained.. -Thestud 15 is 'adapted tol project through a
center opening. in the block 12 and is screw
threaded at 17 to receive a'winged clamp nut
18 which latter when screwed down forces
the block 12 upon the block 11 to effectually 45
hold the wire between the t#o -pairs of jaws
14. At one side or-eiid of each of the blocks
11, 12 is -centrally arranged eye 19 adapted
to receive a hook or link 20 upon the free end
of tlhe chain 6. The hooks 20 on the said 50
chain *are of-equal length so that the central
location of the eyes 19 on the blocks and, the
central disposition of; the wire W between
the blocks' by reason'qf the notch or seat 16 in,
the post 15, will permit of a straight longi- 55
tudinal pull upon' the wire to be stretched.
Having'thus described my invention what
I claim as.new and desire to secure by Letters
Patent is:
A wire clamp 'comprising a pair of blocks 60
having their opposing faces recessed to pro-
vide at their opposite edges opposing jaws,
one of said blocks being .apertured, a screw
stud projecting from the other of said blocks
and through said -aperture, said stud being 65
centrally disposed in said block and having
at its inner end .a transvese recess, a clamp-
ing nut upon the outer end of said stud, cen-
trally arranged eyes upon the adjacent ends
of said blocks, a flexible element and links 70
upon said element-and engaged with the eyes
upon said blocks, substantially as and for
the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof 'I hereunto affix.my
signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPHUS H.. EUBANK.
