UNITED STATESPATENT OFFICE.
JOHN LEE ROY GRISWOLD, OF DAL1ART, TEXAS.
ROLL-HOLDER.1,051,808.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 12, 1912. Serial No. 703,355.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoH iLEE Roy Gis-
WOLD, a citizen of the United States, resid-
ing at Dalhart, in the county of Dallamr
5 and State of Texas, have invented new and
useful Improvements in Roll-Holders, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to roll holders and
more particularly to that type of devices
10 which are adapted to hold rolls of absorbent
cotton, bandaging material, and the like, for
use in hospitals and similar places.
The principal object of the invention is to
provide a simple and efficient device of this
15 character which may be cheaply constructed,
conveniently operated, and which will keep
the absorbent cotton, gauze, bandaging ma-
terial, or the like, in a sanitary condition.
Further objects of this invention will ap-
20 pear as the following specific description is
read in connection with the accompanying
drawing, which forms a part of this appli-
cation, and in which:-
Figure 1 is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a
25 top plan view. Fig. 3 is a section on the
line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a section on
the line 4-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspec-
tive view of one of the covers removed.
Fig. 6 is a similar view of one of the hinged
30 leaves.
Referring more particularly to the draw-
ing, 1 represents a supporting frame con-
structed of a single piece of material bent
to form the yoke-shaped back 2 having in
35 its upper end a loop 3 which may be en-
gaged upon a nail or other suitable device
to produce the structure upon the wall. The
lower ends of the- frame are bent at right
angles to the back, as shown at 14 and se-
40 cured thereto and to the back are a pair of
double curved supports 5 to which are riv-
eted or otherwise secured the roll holding
casings 6 and 7, both of which are con-
structed in a similar manner but of different
45 sizes, the latter one being considerably
small. These casings comprise end members
8 connected together by a semi-circular cas-
ing 9 and a cover 10 which is in semi-circu-
lar form and is provided with side flanges
50 11 which overhang the end pieces 8 when
the cover is in position. These side flanges
have suitable notches 12 formed therein
adapted to engage the pins 13 carried upon
the end pieces in position to permit the rear
55 or high edge of the covers to overlap the
rear or high edge of the semi-circular cas-.ing 9 and the forward or lower edge to be
spaced away from or with relation to the
lower or front edge of the semi-circular cas-
ing, as shown in Fig. 3. These covers are 60
provided with inwardly extending spring
fingers 15 forming a continuation of the
flanges 11 and having secured thereto pivot-
ing and retaining pintles 16 which extend
through apertures 17 in the end pieces and 65
hold the covers in place and also engage the
pivoting blocks 18 carried by the fabric
rolls 19. The pintles, therefore, serve a
double purpose, that of securing the covers
in position upon the casings and also of 70
forming a pivoting member upon which the
rolls may be rotated. These fingers may be
sprung away from the end pieces, as will be
readily understood, so as to disconnect the
pintles 16 from the rolls and from the aper- 7
tures 17, thereby permitting the covers and
rolls to be removed. The aperture 20 formed
between the front or lower edge of the cover
and the front or lower edge of the casing
permits the material to be drawn out of the 80
casing for use. Covering the openings 20
are lids 21 having side ears 22 to pivotally
engage the studs 23 projecting from the side
flanges 11. These lids drop by gravity so
as to close the openings 20 when released. 85
The roll holders just described are pref-
erably adapted to hold absorbent cotton of
different widths and secured to the lid 10 Qf
the casing 6 are two separate similar roll
holders 24 and 25 which are removed from 90
the frame when the lid 10 is removed from
the casing 6. These holders have covers 27
and 28 and are also provided with the grav-
ity doors 29 and 30.
It will be noticed that the device may be 95
readily supported upon a table or may be
hung up on the wall by engaging the loop
with a suitable supporting device.
What is claimed is-
1. In a device of the class described, a 100
frame, a semi-circular casing secured there-
on, a cover for the casing adapted to par-
tially close the same, said casing having
apertured end members, and means carried
by the cover for passing through the aper--105
ture to secure the cover into position upon
the casing and to afford a pivotal point for
a roll of material.
2. In a device of the class described, a
frame, a semi-circular casing secured there- 110
on, a cover for the casing adapted to par-
tially close the same, said casing havingPatented Jan. 28,1913.
