UNITED STATESPATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. SOUCEK AND FRANK E. USTYNIK, OF PIERCE, TEXAS.
SHOW-CASE.Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1910.
Application fled June 21, 1909. Serial No. 503,477.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CI-Rims H. SoucEw
and FRANK E. USTYNIK, citizens of the
United States, residing at Pierce, in the
5 county of Wharton and State of Texas, have
invented certain new and useful Improve-
ments in Show-Cases; and we do declare the
following to be a full, clear, and exact de-
scription of the invention, such as will en-
10 able others skilled in the art to which it ap-
pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in
show cases.
One object of the invention is to provide
15 a show case adapted to open at the front and
top whereby the goods displayed therein are
made accessible to the purchaser to permit
him to inspect the same and make his own
selection thereby obviating the liability of
20 injuring the goods or replacing the same in
the wrong boxes, as frequently occurs when
the goods are taken out and put back into
the case for the inspection of the prospective
purchaser, and also saving the time and
25 labor required in removing and replacing the
goods.
Another object of the invention is to pro-
vide a show case of this character which will
be simple, strong and durable in construc-
30 tion, having an efficient and reliable and
practicable operating mechanism whereby
the top and front panels of the case may be
readily opened or closed from the rear.
Another object is to provide a case of this
35 character which may be readily knocked
down and the parts closely packed or stored
for shipping.
With the foregoing and other objects in
view, the invention consists of certain novel
40 features of construction, combination and
arrangement of parts, as will be more fully
described and particularly pointed out in
the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1
45 is a perspective view of a double or two-sec-
tion show case constructed in .accordance
with the invention and showing one section
of the case open and the other closed; Fig. 2
is a rear view of the same; Fig. 3 is a verti-
s0 cal cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2,
showing the parts in closed position; Fig. 4
is a similar view showing the parts in open
position; Fig. 5 is a vertical longitudinal
section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3; Fig. 6 is a
55 horizontal section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 5;
Fig. 7 is an enlarged horizontal sectionalview through one of the outer corners of the
case; Fig. 8 is a similar view of a modified
construction of the parts shown in Fig. 7;
Fig. 9 is a horizontal sectional view through 60
the adjoining front corners of the two sec-
tions of the case; Fig. 10 is a detail side
view of one of the adjustable push bars for
the movable panels of the case.
Referring more particularly to the draw- 65
ings, 1 denotes the case which may consist of
one or a number of counterpart sections, the
same being shown in the drawings as being
formed of two sections joined together in the
manner hereinafter described. The sections 70
of the case may each be provided with a sep-
arate base 2, as shown, or a single base may
be provided to form a support for two or
more sections.
Each of the sections of the case comprises 75
stationary side panels 3 and said panels may
be divided, by vertical and horizontal part-
ing strips 4 and 5, into any desired number
of frames to receive the panes of glass which
are held therein in any suitable manner. 80
The sections of the case are provided on their
front side with lower stationary panels 6 and
upper movable panels 7. The upper portion
of the rear side of the sections is closed by
slidably mounted doors 8 which are mounted 85
on suitable guide ways, as shown. The lower
portion of the rear side of the sections is
preferably closed by hinged doors 9 which
are held in closed position by suitable turn-
buttons 10. 90
The sections of the case are divided into
'upper and lower compartments by a trans-
versely disposed shelf or partition 11 and the
lower compartment is provided with a floor
or bottom 12. The top of each section is 95
closed by a stationary panel 13 and a mov-
able panel 14 both of which are preferably
glazed. The lower panels 6 of the front side
of the sections are spaced a suitable distance
along their side and upper edges from the 100
adjacent edges of the side frames and shelf
.11 to provide a space to receive the upper
movable panel 7 of the front side of the sec-
tions when said panel is lowered to an open
position. The ends of the lower stationary 105
panels 6 are held in spaced relation from the
adjacent edges of the side panels by suitable
spacing plates 15, said plates being provided
with right-angularly bent outer edges which
are screwed or otherwise suitably secured to 110
the inner side of the ends of the lower panels
6 while the opposite edges of the plates are951,344.
