In constructing the resilient connection,
the springs 14 and 14' must be suflcieitly
yielding to-prevent injury to the mechanism
when the valve has reached its limit of
5 movement in either direction, and- must .be
sufficiently rigid to overcome the weight, in-
ertia and. friction of the valve and transmit
positive motion thereto. The springs may
be relatively stiff and not under stress, or be
10 relatively weak and under considerable
stress.
What I claim is:
1. In _ -speed regulating mechanism, the
combination with a governor device, a man-
1; ual control device. and a device for control-
ling the application of power to the element
whose speed is to be regulated, of an inter-
connecting lever connected -with said gov-
ernor, manual control and power controlling
20 devices so as to operate upon the two former
alternatively -as -fulcrums and actuated the
latter. the connection of one of said devices
to said lever being resilient. .
2. In a speed regulating mechanism, the
25 combination with a speed responsive device,
a manual control device, and a - device for
controlling the application of force to the
element whose speed is tube regulated. of al
interconnecting device. conitetted with said
30 speed responsive, maiual control and force
controlling devices .so as to operate upo:i
the two former ahernatively, as fuheruis.
and actuate the latter. the connectioA of one
of said elements to said interconnectxing de-
86 vice being resilient.
3. In a speed regulating mechanism, the
combination with a speed responsive device,
a manual control rod, and a device for con-
trolling the application of fore to the ele-
40 ment whose speed is to be regulated, of an
interconnecting device, connected with said
speed responsive device, manual control rod,
and force controlling device, so as to operate
upon the two former alternatively, as ful-
45 crums, ahd actuate the latter, the connection
of one of said elements to said interconnect-.
ing .device being resilient.
- 4. In a speed regulating mechanism, the
combination with a speed responsive device,
50 a manual control lever, and a device for con-
trolling the application of force to the ele-
ment whose speed is to be regulated, of an
interconnecting device, connected with said
speed responsive.-device, manual control le-
55 ver andforce controlling device so as to op-erate upon the two former alternatively, as
fulcrums. and actuate the latter, the connec-.
tion of one of said elements to said inter-
connecting device being resilient.
5. In a speed regulating mechanism, the 60
combination with a speed responsive device,
a manual control device, and a nmotive fluid
valve, of an interconnecting device, connect-
ed with said speed responsive device, man-
ual control device and motive fluid valve so e5
as to operate upon the two former alter-
natively, as fulcrums. and actuate the latter.
the connection of one of said elements to said
interconnecting device being resilient..
G. In a speed regulating mechanism, the 70
combination with a speed responsive device,
a manual control device, and a device for
controlling the application of force to the,
element whose speed is to be regulated, 6f an
interconnecting lever, connected with said 75
speed responsive, manuall control and force
controlling devices so as to operate upon the
two former alternatively, as fulcrums, and
actuate the latter,.the connection of one of
said elements to said interconnecting lever 8o
being resilient. .
7. In a speed regulating mechanism, the
combination with a manual control rod and
a'speed responsive device, of a connecting
means, connected thereto in such a manner 85
as to operate upon them alternatively, as ful-
crums, and open and close a motive fluid
valve, having connection with said connect-
ing means and to be operated thereby. tb
connection of one of said elements to sant o
connecting means being resilient.
8. In a speed regulating mechanism, the
combination with a speed responsive device,
a motive fluid valve, and a manual control
device. of an interconnecting lever. connect- e5
ed with said speed responsive device, motive
fluid valve and manual control device so as
to operate upon the speed responsive device
and manual control device alternatively, as
fulcrums, ani control the motive fluid valve, -.oo
the connection of one of said elements to
said lever being resilient;
In testimony whereof I have signed my
name to this specification in the presence of
two subscribing witnesses.
