UNITED STATESPATENT 'OFFICE.
JULIUS POLLAK, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
ShIR.T.Specification of Letters Patent.'
Patented Aug. 25, 1908.
Application filed October 14, 1907, Serial No. 397,4M3.
To all dwiom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jumus POLLAK, a citi-
zen of the United States, residing at Houston,
in the county of Harris and State of Texas,
5, have invented certain new and useful Im-
provemenhts in Shirts and Similar Garments,
of which the following is a specification, ref-
erence being had therein to the accompany-
ing drawings, forming a part thereof.
10 One object of my invention is to provide a
garment of the character above referred to
which, in all positions of the wearer and un-
(der all conditions, will be prevented from
working upwardly and out of the trousers or
15 drawers, and which may, if.desired, be made
to assist in supporting the drawers. .
Another object of my invention is to pro-
vide a garment of the character referred to
which will not be bulky or uncoinfortable to
20 the wearer and which may be put on and fas-
tened in. place or unfastened and removed in
the least possible time and. with the least
possible trouble.
A further object of my invention is to pro-
25 vide a garment of the character referred to
which will have to be fastened and unfas-
tened only in the process 'of dressing and un-
dressing and which will not require attention
or adjustment by the- wearer when about to
30 urinate.
A still further object of my invention is to
provide a garment of the character referred
to which will not interfere with the natural,
health y, .and comfortable position of the
35 scrotum of the wearer, there being no parts to
bind or confine the scrotum in an unnatural
position.
Other objects of my invention are to pro-
vide a garment which will fulfil the condi-
40 tioins .lhereIllbfi)r'e eniumerated and which
will, at the san'e time, l)e simple in construe-
tion and inexpensive to ilanuf(acture.
TN) the above ends mily intention co1-
prises a shirt or similar garment provided
45 with a relatively narrow strap or strip of mi-
terial, collect i1g, w1he( ill operative positionI,
the opposite sides of the lower end of the gar-
m ent, and 1assinmmg b IetweeI th i les of the
wearer at one side of the scrot11m1.
50 p. il( ( oiaompain 11g d irawilg imllust mates, in
fron elevation, one construction of garment
in \11ichm11y inventionn may be embodied.
ii the rawiiig the shirt 12 is provided
w ih the usual front and rear tails or (laps 13
5 a..d 144, respectively, of 11bst i ally o'di-
nary form, w ith the exception that in thepresent case these.tails or fiaps may, if de-
. sired, be made somewhat shorter than usual,
thereby ;avoiding the unnecessary bulk of
cloth around the body which is usually placed 6o
in these flaps to-assist, in a measure, inma-
taiming the garment in proper position. The
tails or flaps 13 and 14 may,-if desired, when
my improvement is employed, be omitted
and the garment proper made of a sufficient 65
length to reach substantially to or below the'
lower end of the abdomen of the wearer, and
in the case of an undershirt, sweater, or simi-
lar garment the latter form will be preferable.
Adapted to secure together. the tails or 70
flaps 13 and 14, or the opposite sides of the
lower end of the garment where said tails or
flaps are omitted, is a relatively narrow strap
or strip of material 15 adapted .to pass be-
tween the legs of the wearer at one side of the 75
scrotum without material interference with.
the latter. The strap or strip 15 will be of a,
suflicient width only to afford the necessary
strength and to prevent uncomfortable cut-
ting or binding of the wearer, and may be. 80
of any suitable material as, for example,
cord, tape, elastic fabric, cloth, etc.
Preferably and as herein shown 'the strap
or. strip' 15 is permanently attached to or
formed integral with one of the flaps or tails, 85
herein the rear flap 14, and is adapted to be
detachably and, preferably, adjustably con-
nected with the other of said-flaps. To this
end the body of the garment or the flap form-
ing a portion thereof is preferably provided 90
with one or more buttons or other fasteners
16, while the strap or strip 15 is provided
with a button-hole or other device 17 adapt-
ed to cooperate with either or any of the fas-
teners 16. By providing a plurality of fas- 95
teners 16, the strap 15 can be adjusted to suit
the size or the individual ideas of comfort of
the wearer, thereby avoiding the necessity of
making shirts of different length.
As will now be seen, after the garment has 100
been put on by the wearer, the strap 15 will
be i)assed between the legs at one side of the
serottni. and easily and quickly secured in
place by one of the fasteners 16. When in
this position the strap 15 will securely hold 105
the garment in its proper position irrespec-
tive of the movements or position of the.
wearer, and.this without the presence of any
unnecessary amount of bulky material.
Moreover the relatively narrow strap or strip 110
15 allows 'the scrotum or privates, to hang in
their natural, confortable position, not in-No. 897,140.
