Why apeak ye not a word of
bringing the king back? 2 Sam.
19:10. The life of David, the
king, is more interesting than
the story of the “Search of The
Golden Fleece ’’ More than any
other character in either aacred
or profane history does be seem
to have come in touch with the
whole range of human experi-
ence Loved by his men with a
devotion stronger than life, yet
hated by the king with an insane
jealousy. Prom the heights of
communion and fellowship with
the Father to the depths of un-
speakable anguish and sorrow.
It is David whose heart must
bleed because “Mine own
familiar friend in whom I trust
ed has lifted up his heel'against
me,” yet he is loved with un
measured compassion by those
who might have bad reason to be
his enemies.
A rebellious son had driven
the king away from the throne
snd what a void bis going away
had left. Like the sinking of a
mighty ship in the midst of
smaller craft. The human
foundations of all that the heart
of Israel held dear aeemed to
have been removed and no band
was worthy of the task of build
ing them again. The people
gathered in quiet groups aud
whispered one to another, “Why
speak ye not a word of bringing
the king back?” In all this and
more David was but a tvpe of

the King of Kings.
Here we have a faint picture
of what it means not to have tiie
King in your life. The whole
man needs Him, needs Him iu
every calling and for every task.
For in Him dwelietii all the ful
ness of the Godhead bodily; and
ye are complete in Him. Col 2
9 10 Dr. Gordon tells this
story: Late one Saturday night
as he was preparing his message
for the Sunday morning hour he
fell asleep bub carried with him
into dreamland all the pent up
'hungerings of soul fora closer
fellowship with the Master of
men. The Sabbath hitd corns He
was in his pulpit reading the
word and announcing his theme,
when in came a Stranger of
impressive bearing and glowing
countenance. Quietly was he
seated in a pew near the front
The power of the Spirit brooded
over the assembled throng Nor
did the Stranger fail for one
moment to look into the face of
the speaker with all tenderness
and compassion. Quickly did
the hour pass and the people
began to go their way and with
them the Stranger. As quickly
as ever he could the minister
made his way to the pew where
He sat but He was gone. Said
he to one of his parishioners
“Will you not tell me about the
one who arrived late and sab just
here today?” “O,” said he,
“that was Jesus the Saviour ol
men, He was here today and is
gone but Ha will come again.”
The sleeper awoke but visions
of a returning Kiug remained to
bless his ministry thru the com
ing years
That the king is coming back
to our needy world, evermore to
be our Ruler is one of the most
precious truths and yet a truth
that is most generously taught
in both Old aud New Testament
scriptures, I read it in the
prophecies ol Isaiah who teiis us
of the reign of David’s righteoiis
Branch. "Thine eyes shall see
the King in his beauty; they shall
behold Che laud that is very far
off. 1 read it in the last book,
the King's final message to the
world.” And the seventh angel
sounded %nd there were great
voices in the heavens saying:
The kingdoms of this world are
become the kingdoms of our
Lord and his Christ.”
My good friends, are you try-
ing to speak the words that will
bring the King back? For you
and for me it may he a needed-
word of confession. How we
have sinned in wanting “Al>
solo in” king of our lives. It
may be a word of testimony for
us. How we need to tell what
great things God hath done
unto thee.” It should be a word
of intercession waiting for the
coming of the Lord Jesus. May
your heart and mine in these
days feel the lug of it. May we
not have your helpful presence
with us always in the worship of
the Sabbath day, where the King
has promised to be with ns.
