most important duty? What
can I do that will yield the best
returns in life? It is a happy dis
covery to learn that the answer
■ to both questions
is the same. We
know this is true
because Jesus
himself was asked
both questions,
and gave the
same apswer each
time. The strange
ness of his an
swer is that he
Dr. Foreman did not directly
say to either questioner: DO—
anything whatever. The highest
duty and the most rewarding
effort is not action but attitude.
For Jesus’ reply to these ques-
tions was: Love God; love your
fellowman Jesus was not the first
to sum up the Law and the Proph
’ ets—in short, the entire Old Testa
ment—in these two commands,
love to God and to neighbor; but
he gave his approval M Aria
of summing it all UP-
Love to God *
We have called leva aa “attt

love which is only an attitude,
never resulting in action, la not
what Christ sod Christiana afiar
him mean by tba word. Never**-
less, love ia an atUtads before E
is an act. You might
should be the atmosphere,
light, in which you see, or
about, God and your neib--
Now it ia dear Oat love to God
can’t be precisely the same aa
love to men, even the best of men.
From ajl that ia said of “lareT in
the New Testament—for instance
in 1 Corinthiana IS, or John 1*
through 17, it ia plain that love,
as God approves it among men,
involve* helping them nhna to
need. But God ia never in need.
Also, love is at Its high point when
it is expended on the unloving and
the uniovablef but God ia
unloving nor unlovable. Pi—,. .
wa can pet together lovn to God
and love to man this engt levn
means sharing their concerns^
Jesus the 'boy was sharing the
concern of his Father in heaven
when he said, “I must be about
my Father’s business.” As a man,
he was sharing his Father’s con-
cern when he said: “1 always do
what is pleasing to him.” (John
8:29.)
Love to man
Not all that concerns God con
eems us He has a wide universe
to control, and he has not invited
us to help operate heaven, hell or
the stars in the sky. But (strange
as it may seem) God does have
concerns with men; and it is these
which we can share—and will
share gladly if the love of God is
in us. But the concerns of men are
different They arise out of man’s
weakness and sin, just as God’s
concerns arise from his holiness
and power. Much of the concern
of every man can be summed up
in one question: How can I get
out of the jam I’m in? Not every
one is in the same kind of "jam "
The troubles of an intellectual
mind wrestling with sore doubts

(Pol. Ad pM /or by Bokor iriondt)
Manj honest and sincere people have
never thought that Christ might have a
choice in religion, so often do they hear
the statement, “Attend the Church of
YOUR choice." Yet Paul said, "Wherefore
also we make It our aim, whether at home
or absent, to be well-pleasing to HIM."
II Coiinthians 5:9 (A. S. V.) Aren’t we
more interested In complying with Christ a
choice than our own?
The Lord does have a choice and the church
of Christ’s choice is found In the New Testa-
ment. Jesus said, Upon this rock I will
build my church." Matthew 16:18. It was
established in Jerusalem in the year A. D.
33 through the preaching of Christ’s Gospel.
Acts 2. No man ever had authority to
build another church.
Christ chose to call the church by his own
name. For this reason Paul said. "The
churches of Christ salute you.” Romans
16:16.
Christ chose to command men to:
Believe_“He that belleveth and is baptized
shall be saved." Mark 16:16.
Repent—God .... commandeth all men
everywhere to repent. Acts 17:30.
Confess Christ — Whosoever shall confess
( ' r*. « # »
that Jesus is the Son of God. God dwelleth
in him. and he in God. I John 4:15.
Be Baptized—He commandeth them to be
baptized in the name of the Lord. Act*
10:48.
The church of Christ’s choice still urges
men to obey those commands . - . Christ
chose to instruct men to worship in this
way:
Lord’s Supper—Acts 20:7. "Upon the first
day of the week when the disciples came
together to break bread/’
Preach—II Tim. 4:2, "Preach the word; be
instant in season, out of season."
Pimy—Acts 2:42, "They continued stead-
fastly ... in prayers.”
Sing—Eph. 5; 19-20, "Singing and making
melody in your heart to the Lord."
Give—I Cor. 16:2. "Upon the fbwt
the week let every one of you lay by.hfcn In
store as the Lord has prospered Mm-
