Kinkaid School Announces
New Pre-School Program
A new pre-school program for
three and four year-olds will be
initiated at the Kinkaid School
in the fall of 1964, John H. Coop-
er, Kinkaid headmaster, has
announced.
To accommodate the program,
Kinkaid will construct a new
building on the north end of
the campus adjacent to the pres-
ent kindergarten building.
The pre-school building, which
will contain 23,000 square feet
completely air-conditioned, is the
gift of a friend of the school,
according to Cooper.
Commenting on the new pro-
gram, Cooper said:
“It should be noted that similar
pre-school programs are already
a part of the nation’s leading day
schools, and that early childhood
education is again the subject
of serious study at the university
level.
“Much of the present concern
is based upon the awareness that
young children have untapped
learning capacity and that the
work habits which they will de-
velop have their beginning by
age t-hree.”
Kinkaid’s new pre-school pro-
gram is the result of nearly two
years of study and investigation
by the school staff, Cooper said.
“It is proposed that the new
facility will incorporate those
features which have been found
to be most effective in providing
the child with meaningful activ-
ity.

MISS RIDENOUR
Mr. and Mrs, C. W. Ride-
nour, 4831 I m o g e n e, an-
nounce the engagement of
their daughter, Carol Beth,
to Charles Evans Hammonds,
son of Dr. and Mrs. Charles
E. Hammonds of Brownwood.
Carol attended Sam Hous-
ton State Teachers College
and is a member of Alpha
Delta Pi sorority. Charles is
a senior at Texas A and M
and is a pre-med student.
The wedding is scheduled
for August 22 in Faith Lu-
theran Church.
MIn this sense, school will be
a prepared environment in which
the child will discover himself
and will gradually have contact
with the larger world.”
The Kinkaid headmaster point-
ed out tha-t the program will
provide many “work” exper-
iences in which the child will
unite the activity of hand, eye,
and brain.
“Through these he will take
his first steps in the building
of the skills and habits which
he will need in both school and
life,” he said.
The new program for three and
four-year old children is planned
for two groups of twelve children
in each group.
Interested parents may contact
the Kinkaid registrar for further
information on the pre-school
program.

Early Greek literature reveals
little about the practical tech-
niques of manufacture, since
Greek citizens did not engage in
work and non-citizens were ig-
nored in contemporary literature.
