The water turned white and
the spectators inside out as Bell-
aire’s swimming residents sent
records toppling and depleted
the stock of Bellaire Optimist
Club medals during the annual
city swim meet at Evergreen
Pool, Aug. 24.
Twenty-five new records were
set in the forty events run. Ten
of the events involved distances
longer than those previously
run, t'hus establishing new rec-
ords in these events as well.
Seven participants went home
with the maximum number of
three first place gold medals.
These were Kathy Dominguez
and Martin Anderson III in the
8 and under division, Jeff Nan-
nen in the 9 and 10, Lee Watts
and Jim McLean in the 11 and
12, and Marsha Anderson and
Jack Gronberg in the 13 and
14 division.
Two races were so close that
identical times were turned in
and swim-offs were necessary
for 1st place in the 9 and 10
girls 50 yr. freestyle and for 2nd
place in the 11 and 12 girls 50
yd. back.
