MRS. THEODORE OWEN JR.
Wedding solemnized in Galveston.
Miss Biering Is Bride
Of Theodore Owen Jr.
NEW ‘YELLOW PAGE' DIRECTORY
IS NOW BEING DISTRIBUTED
At a nuptial mass on May 26
at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church
in GaJveston, Miss Leona Cath-
erine Biering, niece of Mr. and
Mrs. Sam C. Flowers, 5204 As-
pen, became the bride of Theo-
dore Owen Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. Theodore Owen Sr. of Gal-
veston.
The Rev. J. Ruddy officiated
at the ceremony.
Given in marriage by her uncle,
the bride chose a formal gown
of silk organza over taffeta. De-
signed with a low scalloped
neckline of Chantilly lace, and
brief sleeves complemented by
short gloves, the princess silhou-
ette flowed to a chapel train em-
bellished by scattered appliqued
motifs of Chantilly lace. Her five
tiered bouffant veil of imported
illusion flowed from a tiara of
crystals and bridal pearls. Her
bouquet was a semi-crescent of
mystery gardenias with stephan-
otis and bridal pearls accented
with lace leaves. Her only jewel-
ry was a diamond drop necklace,
a gift of the groom.
Maid of honor was Miss Joan
Farmer of Galveston. Brides-
maids were Miss Cathy Case,
Miss Sandy Hawkins of Galves-
ton and Miss Laleen Biering of
Bellaire, sister of the bride.
The attendants chose dresses
of ice pink organza and carried
crescent bouquets of red roses
with matching French tulle and
satin streamers. Their headpieces
of matching organza in shapes of
roses were accented with white
lace petals.
Phillip Summers of Galveston
served as best man. Groomsmen
were Carl Nelson, Jimmy Dailey
and Gregory Rekoff all of Gal-
veston.
Miss Joan Hinton was the flow-
er girl and James Macicek was
the ring bearer.
Ushers were Jerry Vaughan,
Johnny McGowan, Anthonio
Garza and Finley Pritchett all of
Galveston.
After the ceremony a recep-
tion was held in the Jack Tar
Charcoal Galley.
Members of the houseparty ,
were Miss Jeanie Conklin, Miss
Frances Nussbaum, Miss Caro-
lyn Rogers, Mrs. Jack Bennett
and Mrs. Bobby Pearson of Gal-
veston and Miss Barbara Heis-
ehede of Starksville, Mississippi.
After the reception the couple j
left on a wedding trip to Grand j
Canyon. When they return they j
will make their home at the Bay-
ou Shores Apartments in Gal-
veston.
The bride graduated from Ur-
suline Academy, attended the
Delivery of the 51st edition of
the Houston “Yellow Page” di-
rectory, its cover adorned with
everything from kittens to cover-
ed wagons by the clever pen of
artist Karl Hoefle, began Thurs-
day, May 24, according to Harry
Hastings, local manager for
Southwestern Bell Telephone
Company.
The door-to-door delivery of
the 487.00u directories will be
handled by some 1,000 temporary
workers of Directory Distribut-
ing Company. Hastings said that
it will take about two weeks to
complete the delivery.
Hastings reported that the old
directories will not be picked up
so that the delivery process can
be speeded up.
The cover drawing shows the
“spaghetti bowl” traffic ex-
change near the Coliseum, with
Houston’s growing skyline in the
background.
Artist Hoefle normally puts a
cat— his “trademark”— in each
drawing. The felines are there
again this year—a mother cat
with four kittens, one more than
last year.
But Hoefle also included an
elephant, a dog, an elk and a
horse to round out the animal
life. Since Houston is now call-
ed “Space City, USA,” Hoefle
added a space capsule. Evident-
ly to contrast this mode of trans-
portation, he included a covered
wagon, an electric atrto, and a
bicycle built for two.
University of Texas Medical
Branch School of Radiology. Miss
Biering is now with the Depart-
ment of Radiology at St. Mary’s
Hospital, Galveston.
The* groom graduated from
Kirwin High School, attended
Alvin Junior College and served
in the U. S. Marines. He is now
employed with Strahan Shipping
Co.
The new classified directory
contains 1,028 pages of business
listings and advertising. A total
of 601,760 copies was printed for
current distribution and future
needs for the next 12 months.
