The Westbury Civic Club will
have its regular monthly meeting

tion Center.
Dr. John McFarland, Superin-
tendent of Schools, will be the guest
speaker. All residents of Westbury
and visitors are invited to hear
Dr. McFarland.
Mr. Vic Krueger, 6034 Font-
enelle, is president of the Civic
Club.
Congregation Adath Emeth will
have Harry Shapiro as guest speak-
er on Friday, August 20, at 8
p.m. His subject will be “Why
Judaism.’’
Happy Birthday to Dani Orr
who celebrated her eleventh birth-
day last Sunday afternoon with a
barbecue and swimming party at
her home. Dani is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. G. Orr,
10414 Willowgrove, who are new-
comers to the neighborhood.
Dr. Frank B. Heath, 5518 Bel-
rose, has more reasons than usual
to be a nervous bridegroom. He
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Heath. He graduated from the Tex-
as Dental College of the Univer-
sity of Texas in May. It was here
he met Miss Heide Jutta Schmidt
and she is to become Mrs. Heath
on August 20. She left June first
for her native Nordassel, Ger-
many, to visit her grandmother,
Mrs. Elsa Bode. Dr. Frank Heath
had enlisted in the service and ex-
pected to be called around the
end of August. Instead he had to
report to Ft. Sam Houston in San
Antonio on August 16, four days
before the wedding, and he had to
secure premission from the Com-
manding Officer to return to Hous-
ton for this importent event in his
life. Heide returned from Ger-
many on Friday the 13 and was
immediately whisked off for a
blood test plus an interview with
the Minister at the church. The
wedding is to be at Westbury
Methodist Church at 7:30 with
Rev. Emmitt Barrow officiating.
After a five weeks training ses-
sion at Ft. Sam Houston, the young
couple will move to Atlanta, Geor-
gia.
In addition to this, Mignonette
Heath, the groom’s sister, who
days early to report to Germany
where she will be an elementary
school teacher for the Department
of Defense. However, Mrs. Thos.
Montgomery, another sister of the
groom, will carry on the honors
for the family.
These have been hectic days for
the Heath Family, as well as Heide,
but perhaps by tonight they will
be able to relax and enjoy the
Miscellaneous Shower given by
Maid of Honor Norma Schm'dt
(no relation to Heide) at 1800 E.
Holcombe Blvd.
Mr. and Mrs. beon Fowler,
Julie and Earl, 4505 Hazelton,
have just returned from a vaca-
tion trip that took them to Den-
ver and Colorado Springs.
The Reverend and Mrs. Arwood
Sterrett, and sons, Steve, Bill,
Paul and Mark, from Toledo Ohio,
had a busy few days in Houston
visiting the Clarence Swartsfag-
ers, 4410 Meyerwood. They had
a visit to NASA, which greatly
interested the boys, as did also
seeing a game at the Domed Sta-
dium, and swimming at Surfside
Beach. Westbury Square and the
glass elevator at the Warwick
werepoints of interest of inter-
est to the parents. The Reverend
Sterrett is Pastor of the Faith
United Church of Christ in Tol-
edo.
An Interesting Woman in theCom-
munity:
Once again I digress from Our
Interesting Young People to tell
you about an interesting woman,
a writer, Mrs. Edward G. Holley,
4837 Briarbend.
Mrs. Holley attended Washing-
ton-Lee High School in Arlington,
Virginia, and received her Masters
from the David Lipscomb college
in Nashville, Tenn. In her Senior
year she was editor of the Col-
lege Magazine.
Mrs. Holley has written sev-
eral articles for the Teen Age
Christian and latest featured art-
icle is “Rejoice With Those That
Rejoice" in the July-August issue
of the Christian Woman. This part-
icular issue was selected for dis-
tribution at the New York World’s
Fair.

Mrs. Holley writes her own ma-
terial for her teacher training
program at the Southwest Church
of Christ on Bellfort at Stella
Link, where she teaches a class
of high school girls. This is a teac-
hers training program where her
students, using the material from
Mrs. Holley, teach other Sunday
School classes.
Mr. Holley is Director of Li-
braries at the University of Hous-
ton. The Holleys are the parents
of four children.
Dr. Wishnow
Opens New
Maplewood Office
Dr. I.C. Wishnow has opened
new offices in the Maplewood Shop-
ping Center, 5649 Beechnut at Hill-
croft.
A 1956 graduate of the Illinois
College of Optometry, Dr. Wish-
now, who formerly was located
in the Meyerland Shopping Center,
is one of Houston’s leading contact
lens specialists, and has prescrib-
ed and fitted for over 1,500 con-
tact lens patients with better than
90 per cent success.
He has devised a wearing sche-
dule which allows his patients to
achieve theil all day wearing time
with nrnimum adaption.
Dr. Wishnow has written arti-
cles on contact lenses, given lec-
tures and his techniques in fitting
and dispensing contact lenses have
been adopted by other optometrists
in the Texas area.
