Miss Elementary Contest, Pet Show
Big Bel Recreation Events For July
Preliminaries in the Bellaire
Parks and Recreation Depart-
ment’s annual Miss Elementary
Contest will be held at 8 p.m.
Friday at Bellaire Pool, 5111
Laurel, and Evergreen Pool,
Avenue A at Evergreen.
Bellaire cuties between the
age of 6 and 12 who wish to en-
ter the contest should register
at the pool nearest their home
before noon July 10. Fifteen fin-
alists will be chosen from each
pool to compete for the title of
Miss Elementary at 8 p.m. Fri-
day, July 24, at Bellaire Pool.
The Recreation Department’s
Annual Pet Show will be held
from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Wednes-
day, July 15 in the Community
Building, 300 South Rice. So all
you Bellaire youngsters, spruce
up your cats and dogs, even give
your lizards a manicure if need

South Texas Area DeMolay
Conclave Here This Weekend
Over four hundred DeMolays
from all over the Gulf Coast will
be converging on the Shamrock
Hilton this coming weekend. The
event is the 1964 South Texas
Area Conclave which is being
sponsored this year by Sam B.
Cantey Jr., Chapter, Order of
DeMolay. The convention will
run from July 9th-thru the 11th.
Jarry Booth, 7131 Bellaire
Blvd., is acting as general con-
clave chairman. Working under
him is Lynr Olivier, 20, of 4141-
Glenshire, conclave treasurer;
Lee Stepleton, 20, of 7111 Hill-
croft, conclave registration and
publicity; Tommy Lott, 18, of
3509 Georgetown, awards chair-
man; Rodney Burton, 18, 3221
Plumb, chairman of meetings
and meals; Bob Mclver, 17,
athletics chairman; and acting
as Sweetheart Activities Chair-
man is Don Eden, 19, of 3703
Robinhood. Eden is also present-
ly master counselor of Cantey
Chapter.
The DeMolays will participate
in all athletic events available—
such as baseball, basketball,
swimming, tennis, track, soft-
ball, and golf. Also the seven-
teen chapter areas will have
competition in its degrees, Initia-
tory and DeMolay. The high-
leight of the convention will be
the Grand Award Banquet and
Sweetheart Ball to be held in the
Shamrock’s Emerald Room and
the crowning of the new area
sweetheart of DeMolay.
H. Malvern Marks, of Ft.
Worth, Texas, the executive of-
ficer of DeMolay in Texas will
also be in attendance. The chap-
ter advisor of Cantey Chapter.
Edgar Lott, is acting as con-
clave advisor. Also, many Mas-
ons from the Scottish Rite Tem-
ple headed by Craig C. Watkins,
3759 Durness, will be assisting
the DeMolays. Mrs. Rodney
Burton, president of the Cantey
Mothers’ Club, will be conduct-
ing the sweetheart activities at
the conclave.

Boosters Set
Registration
The Westbury FUN Booster
Club will hold its initial regis-
tration for the Parker and An-
derson FUN Football teams Sat-
urday, July 11, at Mr. Dud’s
Clothing Store, 11007 Chimney
Rock in Westbury. The hours of
registration will be from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m.
The FUN Football program is
for boys in the third, fourth,
fifth and sixth grades. The third
and fourth grades compete in
the freshman division and the
fifth and sixth in the varsity
division. All parents interested
in having their boys participate
in this worthwhle program are
urged to regster at this time.
There will be a drill squad for
girls of the same ages and their
registration will be held at the
same time and place.

Texas highways are now val-
ued at $4,500,000,000, Chairman
Herbert C. Pctry Jr., of the
Highway Commission annonccd.
Petry said every effort must
be made to maintain a balanced
system of highways, from the
farm-to-market roads to the in-
terstate highways to serve all
sorts of traffic.
