Cedar Hill , Texas and to all
other Interested persons:
Notice is hereby given that
an election will be held in
and throughout the City of
Cedar Hill, Texas on the 5th
day of December, 1967 on the
question of the adoption of a
One Percent(I%) Local Sales
and Use Tax within said City,
in keeping with the following
ordinance adopted by the City
Council of said City, as fol-
lows, to-wit:
An ordinance ordering a
special election to be held in
the city of Cedar mil, Texas,
on the question of the adop-
tion of a one percent (1%)
local sales and use tax within
the city; designating the day of
place—; appointing election
officials therefor; providing
that all duly qualified resi-
dent electors shall be quali-
fied to vote; prescribing form
of ballot; providing for notice
of election; containing other
provisions relating to sail
election; provMtig Tor .a••ver*
ability ; and declaring an em-
ergency.
Whereas, Article 1066c,
Vernon’s Texas Civil Statutes
(Acts 1967, 60th Legislature,
Regular Session, Chapter 36,
Page 62)authorizes the gover-
ning body of any city, town
or village In Texas to call
an election for the purpose of
adopting a local sales and use
tax within such city, town or
village; Now Therefore,
Be It ordained by the City
Council of the city of Cedar
mil, Texas:
Section 1. That a special
election shall be held in and
throughout the city of Cedar*
mil, Taxas, on the 5th day of
December, 1967 , at which
election there shall be sub-
mitted to the resident quali-
fied voters of said city of
Cedar mil, Texas , for their
action thereupon, the following
propositions;
“For adoption of a one per-
cent (1%) local sales and use
tax within the city."
A. H. Hooser, a member of
the staff of the Texas State
Teachers Association, will
speak to the Dallas County
TSTA unit at 3:30 p.m. today
at the Cedar mil High School.
Ralph Dahl, Junior high
principal and vice president
of the Dallas County, TSTA
unit, will introduce the speak-
er.
Hooser, on the TSTA staff
since 1958, Is now serving as
Assistant Director of the Di-
vision of Research, Records,
and Membership. In addition
he Is consultant for the Tbxas
Elementary Principals and
Supervisors Association and
Is film coordinator for the film
services at TSTA.
Hooser Is a graduate of the
Plalnvlew Schools. He has an
AA degree, BS degree from
Wayland CoUege, and M.Ed.
Degree from Texas Techno-
logical CoUege and holds a
professional teacher's certi-
ficate and administrator's
certificate. He has com-
pleted all academic work on
his Doctor of Education De-
gree.
He is a member of local,

Mrs. Ed McCrary, 78, of
325 S. Houston In Cedar mil,
an active civic worker, died
Wednesday of last week.
Mrs. McCrary, a native of
Clarksville, Tenn., moved to
Texas 66 years ago. She lived
In Red Oak, EUls County, be-
fore moving to Cedar mil.
She was a member of the
First Methodist Church of
Cedar mil, the DaUas County
Home Demonstrators and of
the Cedar mil Parent-Tea-
chers Association.
The community center In
Cedar mil was recently nam-
ed the “Mary McCrary Build-
ing*’ In her honor.
Survivors Include her hus-
band, Ed McCrary; two sons,
Darrell McCrary of Garland
and Edwin McCrary of Dal-
las; two daughters, Mrs.
Evelyn Whitman of Dallas, and
Miss Dorothy McCrary of Ce-
dar mil; three brothers, Rice
Oldham of Red Oak, Herman
Oldham of Ferris, and Sel-
wyn Oldham of Dallas; a sis-
ter, Miss Etha Oldham of Red
Oak; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were
held at 4 p.m. Friday at the
First Methodist Church in
Cedar mil. Burial was in
the Red Oak Cemetery.

Section 2. That said elec-
tion shall be held at one polling
place for all qualified voters of
said City of Cedar mil, Texas,
and the polling place and pre-
siding officers for said elec-
tion shall be, to-wit: Cedar
Hill City Hall, Presiding Jud-
ge, Alternate Presiding Judge.
The Presiding Judge at such
election shall appoint two (2)
clerks.
Section 3. That said elec-
tion shall be held in accor-
dance with the Constitution and
laws of the State of Texas,
and all duly qualified resident
electors of the City of Cedar
Hill, Texas, shall be qualified
to vote.
Section 4. That the ballots
of said election shall conform
to the requirements of Section
2, Subsection G, of Article
1066c, Vernon's Texas Civil
Statutes (Acts 1967, 60th Leg-
islature, Regular Session,
Chapter 36, Page 62,) and to
the requirements of Chapter
6 of the Election Code of the
State of Texas, as amended,
and the language to be print-
ed thereon shall include the
following:

on the square beside the state-
ment indicating the way you
wish to vote.
The Church of the Nazarene
of Cedar mil, located at Wiley
and Straus Streets, will have a
special homecoming dinner
and singing Sunday.
Former pastor Chad Grant
will be special speaker.
Former members and
friends are all invited to at-
tend, said Rev. Edwin Griffin,
pastor.
1967, 60th Legislature, Re-
gular Session, Chapter 452,
Pages 1026, 1028), which pro-
vides that a square shall be
placed beside each proposi-
tion in which the voter is
instructed to place an “X"
or other clear mark to Indi-
cate the way he wishes to
vote; but which also provides
that failure of a voter to mark
his ballot shall not invalidate
the ballot, and the ballot shall
be counted if the Intention of
the voter is clearly ascertain-
able, except where the law
expressly prohibits the count-
ing of the ballot. It Is speci-
fically provided that the elec-
tion officers shall not refuse
to count a ballot because of the
voter’s having marked his
ballot by scratching out the
statement of proposition for
which he does not wish to vote.
Section 6. That notice of
the election hereby ordered
and called shall be given: (a)
by publication on the same day
of two successive weeks in a
newspaper of general circula-
tion published within said City,
the date of the first publication
to be at least twenty-one (21)
days prior to the date set
herein for such election; and
(b) by posting of such notice
For adoption of a one per-
cent (1%) local sales and use
tax within the city.

For Mrs. Vincent
Ralph Gribble has become a friend to most
every young person in the community as they pass
through their Junior High School years.
Gribble Is the custodian at Cedar Hill Junior High.
He is also a deacon at the First Baptist Church
and has been a church usher for almost twenty
years.
He has a 15 year perfect attendance pin for
Sunday school at the church.
A native of Cedar Hill, Gribble had a farm for
many years before becoming a school custodian.
He and his wife, Gladys, live on Hendricks
Street. They have a son, Billy Joe, and a daughter,
Nancy Ann.

Funeral services for Mrs.
Susie Vincent of Midland, a
resident of Cedar Hill until a
year ago, were held at 2 p.m.
Saturday In the First Metho-
dist Church of Cedar Hill.
The Rev. Gene Browder,
former pastor of the church,
and the Rev. Jim Connatser,
present pastor, officiated. In-
ternment was In the Vincent
Cemetery at De Soto.
Marvin-Ellis Funeral Home"*
of Midland was In charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Vincent, 87, died in
Midland Thursday.
She is survived by two sons,
B. C. Vincent and Carl Vin-
cent, both of Midland; four
grandchildren; and five great-
grandchildren.

Shoe covering was the sub-
ject of the demonstration pre-
sented last week at the meet-
ing of the Cedar Hill Home
Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Jerrell Holveck show-
ed those present how to make
new looking shoes from old
ones by recovering them.
The meeting was held at
the old Ithlel Worden Insur-
ance building with sixteen
members and one guest, Mrs.
Lillian Izzell, present.
Refreshments were served
by hostesses, Mrs. Leon
Bryant and Mrs. Frank Wylie.
The next meeting will be
held November 15 at the home
of Mrs. Wesley England on
Little Creek Road.
The Methodist Youth Fel-
lowship of the First Methodist
Church will be selling Christ-
mas wrapping paper as a fund
raising project.
The wrapping paper comes
In packs of 18 sheets of 8 dif-
ferent colors.
