A Duncanville - area man
was killed and another criti-
cally Injured In a pick-up
truck and moving van head-on
collision three miles north of
Fairfield about 10:30 a.m.
Saturday.
Killed was William Earl
Hindman, 65, of 3722 S. Led-
better, Dallas. Critically in-
jured and in Methodist Hos-
pital is Sam R. Corley, 3622
S. Ledbetter.
The 1964 pick-up beingdrl-
ven by Hindman was complete-
ly cut up into three pieces.
Corley was thrown through the
windshield.
Joe Lee Kirgan Jr., pub-
lisher of the Fairfield Record-
er, said that Hindman and Cor-
ley were traveling south and
the Allied Moving Van was
traveling north.
He said It was his under-
standing that a slow line of
traffic was moving north ahead
of the van with the driver of
one of the autos coming nearly
to a complete stop. Two cars,
seeing the van coming upon
them from the rear, pulled to
the right off the road. The
van, trying to miss another
car, evidently pulled over the
center stripe a foot or two and
collided head-on with the pick-
up being driven by Hindman.
The two Ledbetter residents
were on their way to Buffalo
to purchase some hogs.
Corley suffered Internal in-
juries and underwent surgery
Sunday. He also sustained a
broken elbow and wrist, had
three fingers cut off, had a
severed ear, and received
several cuts.
Hindman, who had lived on
Ledbetter for 20 years, was
born in Paris, Texas. He had
been employed as a custodian
at the Gabe P. Allen School in
Dallas for the past 12 years.
Services for Hindman were
held at 3 p.m. Monday at the
First Baptist Church of Cedar
Hill with the Rev. Don Child-
ress officiating. Burial was at
the Little Bethel Cemetery

Most Taxpayers
Receive Refunds
Apparently filing a tax re-
turn wasn’t as bad a task as
most taxpayers claimed here
in Northern Texas. Sixty-five
percent of the taxpayers filing
individual income tax returns
during 1967 got a refund. The
computer rolled out 987,000
refund checks amounting to
more than $137 million.
Brother, that’s a lot of dough:
The good tax folks say that
they still have several thou-
sand refund checks that could
not be delivered. If you haven’t
got your refund and haven’t
heard from It, either you made
an error, or one of the pro-
cessing employees gave the
computer the wrong informa-
tion, or else you hauled off
and moved.
If you still have a refund
check coming and have not
been notified of problems on
the refund, sit down and write
the Internal Revenue Ser-
vice—tell them when you filed,
what your social security
number is, and how much re-
fund check you are due. You
will probably get your check.
