Artie Romance
It Destroyed By
Airplane Trip
DALLAS, 'lex.. Feb. III. <UP-
Science is forever takiug the io-
inance out of .something. This time
it is arctic exploration.
The romance of pure adventure,
mingled with hardships and re-
wards among the Ice fields of tiie
north henceforth is to l>e read
about in story books,- all because of
the airplane.
Vihjaliiiur Slcfansson during a
visit here said that airplane explor-
ation held no interest for him. He
said that lie was through with
Arctic trips. The airplane and its
aid in making trips across un-
known wastes, he said, has taken
the romance out of exploration
"When one flies," he said, "one
gets a view of the ground front a
height and it ull looks like a great
map. There Is no romance in that
sort of exploration."
Slcfansson has n.tade six trips to
'the arctic zame and has written a
number of books describing the
figid'jiorth.
